(PR) Brooklyn based Golden Triangle slayed their competition at the inaugural Battle of the Bands competition during SXSW. The celebrity judge panel had a tough decision to make between the 8 bands competing at the Compound in Austin on the afternoon of March 20th, but ultimately it was Golden Triangle that reigned supreme. GZA, No Age, and Brooklyn Vegan were all unanimous in their decision to award Golden Triangle the $10k grand prize - Bay Area's Ferocious few was awarded second place with a $3,000 Dickies shopping spree, while Facts on File from LA followed in a close third place for the $2,000 shopping spree.
Over 1000 people attended the Dickies Battle and had the pleasure of witnessing the spontaneous collaboration for the first time between GZA and Atlanta's Black Lips. Relying on nothing but respect for one another's craft, they performed a few GZA songs together and jumped into the Black Lips chamber with GZA rapping over one of their songs .
The collaboration at the Dickies Battle offered up one of the biggest surprises at SXSW and inspired the two artists to take their music to the next level and into the studio for the first time - GZA spits fire on a Black Lips song! Word is GZA was also spotted onstage dancing during the entire Black Lips set at the "Mess With Texas" party during SXSW.
