(PR) A swirling mix of reverb-drenched guitars, pounding rhythms and beautiful, stratosphere-scraping harmonies, Darker My Love's ironically titled sophomore LP, 2, will be released August 5 on Dangerbird Records (Silversun Pickups, Sea Wolf). The Los Angeles/San Francisco residents, will unveil their new polychromatic material with dual-city residencies at various venues around both hometowns throughout July.
This will culminate with two back-to-back album release shows at San Francisco's The Independent August 5 and the Troubadour in Los Angeles August 7. The anticipation swells as early radio supporters includes L.A.'s KCRW and Indie 103.1, as well as Seattle's KEXP.
A bombast of sound from the first note, Darker My Love's second full-length, produced by Dave Cooley, (Silversun Pickups, J Dilla), blares with the same heavy guitars and rich textures that made its debut a standout, yet now imbued with a graduated sense of melody. Over 11 tracks, the quintet, rounded out by new member Will Canzoneri on organ and claviet, demonstrates its love for fuzzy, reverb-laden rock 'n' roll and sunburnt melodies that stick in your head long after the needle has left the groove. Kicking off with the guitar squall of "Northern Soul," the album plays out like a musical odyssey complete with shimmering guitar anthems ("Blue Day"), blasts of buoyant pop ("Two Ways Out") and gems recalling the Nuggets era ("White Composition").
2 follows Darker My Love's self-titled debut released in August 2006, which quickly garnered praise and saw the band share stages with bands including The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Kills and The Warlocks.
