(PR) Spiegelworld, the tented creative extravaganza, returns to New York City's South Street Seaport on August 6 and once again hosts nightly dance parties in conjunction with 'parties for a purpose' organization RainDanceNYC and Global RainDance. Dancing under the stars meets social responsibility as DJ's and live performers provide the soundtrack to summer fun, and fundraising on the fly.For the third year in a row the creative masterminds at Spiegelworld have set up their palaces at New York's Pier 17 to bring fin-de-siecle decadence to the modern metropolis. Hosting not one but two hand-hewn Dutch entertainment palaces under the Brooklyn Bridge, Spiegelworld will present exotic reviews, live performances and dance parties throughout the summer and into fall.
As they did in 2007, Global RainDance will produce the evening dance parties by showcasing over 60 underground DJ's five nights a week for 14 weeks. From Wednesday through Sunday a different nightly event will entertain partygoers and allow charitable organizations to distribute information and collect donations.
The RainDanceNYC Saturday night events will feature AfroBrazilian House, BreakBeats and some of the best live percussionists in the nightlife scene and will also host fund raisers for select organizations such as The Innocence Project, NY Society of International Humanitarian Surgeons, Burning Man, that will go to benefit socially conscious initiatives. With their call to action of Unite, Celebrate, Change, RainDanceNYC combines a party atmosphere with community responsibility.
As nightlife curator Roland Peralta of Global RainDance elaborates, "Last year, RaindanceNYC hosted over 30 outdoor dance parties in Manhattan at SpiegelWorld , and this year we have invited over 60 of the best underground music DJ's and communities including Ursula 1000, Turntables on the Hudson, Rich Medina, Sid LVaga, The Melting Pot with Kervyn Marks, Afrokinetics with Chris Annibell, Benny Soto, Globe Sonic Sound Systems, Basic NYC with Sleepy and Boo, Kenny Summit, Cato, Captain Planet and more to help us raise awareness and have fun. What an outrageous season we have planned for New Yorkers and all the lucky tourists who plan to be in town during this long season."
The rest of the week plans to be equally exuberant with Wednesdays dedicated to Afro-Cuban music and dancing at LA RUMBA, which celebrates the rhythms, roots and traditions of Cuban Music. The evening kicks off with a salsa lesson followed by latin dance performances. On Thursdays the DJ/art installation that is the European phenomenon HEADPHONE DISCO produced and introduced to the USA by Spiegelworld takes over, which can be described thusly; take a room full of clubbers, arm them all with a set of wireless headphones, have two separate DJ's broadcast to them live via two dedicated FM channels and watch the utterly surreal spectacle that unfolds. Unique to say the least. DJ's Bruce Tantum, Resident DJ Peter Munch and legendary scratch master/human beat box DJ Pocket of Montreal (returning to NYC after his hit turn leading the zombies in Spiegelworld's 2007 hit theatrobatic production La Vie) will be among the many guest DJ's throughout the season.
Friday night is PLANET CIRCUS, a soulful and playful mix of house and Brazilian house with live performances on the Pier by LadyCircus and Groove Hoops. To round out the week, Sundays will be PLAYA, the perfect venue for an afternoon dance for New Yorkers who are in town or returning from the beach. The legendary Burning Man community Kostume Kult will host a fundraiser to kick off the season at Planet Circus.
All these high-energy events will strive to provide a deep, sexy, soulful, uplifting and captivating vibe in a wonderful 25,000 square foot outdoor venue with includes a restaurant, bar, a rumoured hidden luxurious VIP bar, cabanas and hammocks, the open air dance tent and of course the two Spiegeltents, all with spectacular views of the BMW Bridges, the river and the Olafur Eliasson waterfalls.
