Lamb of God Star Discusses Acting Debut

07/01/2008
.
(PR) Lamb of God vocalist D. Randall Blythe will be appearing in the upcoming horror/thriller, The Graves, which will be screened for distributors this fall. The film stars Tony Todd (Candyman) and Bill Moseley (The Devil's Rejects) and was written and directed by former comic book writer Brian Pulido.

The Graves is Randy's first foray into film. He plays Deacon Luke, one of the evil denizens of Skull City. Randy checked in with an update on his participation in the movie:

"I recently returned from the blazing hot Arizona desert where I was trying my hand at "acting" (insert rolling of many eyes and "Great, ANOTHER musician who thinks he's an 'actor'" quote here) in the upcoming film The Graves. My buddy Brian Pulido wrote and directed it. Brian is a long time comic book author (creator of "Lady Death", "Evil Ernie", and founder of Chaos Comics) who has put down the pen long enough to yell and scream at me and production assistants, er, I mean direct his first feature film. He also happens to be a metal head from waaaaay back- his character Evil Ernie is partially based on my pal Bobby Blitz of Overkill fame. Brian and I met at Ozzfest '04 through our mutual friend James "The Metal Legend" Collins and have been friends ever since. JC had mentioned to me that Brian was making a movie, so the next time Lamb rolled through Phoenix, Brian came out, and I pressured him into giving me a shot at a part. A few auditions later and I had the part of Luke, an upstanding citizen of the town of Unity, AZ, where the film is set.

"Without giving too much away, the movie is about two sisters who road trip through the desert and wind up in Unity. Something not so nice is happening there, and the man behind it appears to be the local Reverend, played by Tony Todd (Candy Man, Platoon, and a ton of other stuff). Luke is basically the Rev's right hand man, an enforcer of sorts. The two (smokin' hot) sisters get caught up in the mix, and as often happens in horror movies, some blood is spilled here and there. Luke definitely gets his hands dirty.

"Acting was a lot harder than I thought it would be - an incredible amount of work goes into capturing just 30 seconds of film. It was also a hell of a lot of fun (I mean, c'mon- whose gonna have a bad time on the set of a horror movie?). The film is being edited right now, then shopped for distribution, with a tentative October premier. Keep your eyes out for The Graves, coming soon to a theatre to you! And be sure to let the audience know there are metal heads in attendance and scream real loud when I hit the screen! See ya on the road in '09!"

"I knew innately that Randy has the chops and the fury for acting," said Pulido. "He's a perfectionist. We worked together on the character Deacon Luke, and he knocked it out of the park. 'Lamb' fans will get a kick out of Randy playing a murderous church Deacon."
