Tenspoke Indies Week: Lights Out

01/14/2008
.
(antiMusic) Tenspoke Indies debut album, 'Blinded By The Sound,' comes out March 4, 2008. With a sound often compared to Jimmy Eat World but with indie cred, they got our attention, so we asked the band's singer/guitarist (and British ex-pat) Rich Wise to pick his favorite five tracks from the CD and tell us a bit about each one. Here is Rich with today's song "Lights Out".

Funny story about "Lights Out." Josh had this really great AC/DC-like riff, which you now hear in the song. But when he first played it, the band heard it in a different timing than he was intending. It's like when you catch a part of a song at the wrong moment and it sounds backwards or wrong. Long story short, the basic difference was a half beat of time that made it sound completely different.

The lyrics for this one were really easy. They basically came to me as we were playing it, which I love. I usually have a wrestling match with words to find what I want to say, so this time was different. I had had the main title written down on a piece of notebook paper for years as a cool line to someday use. I don't know why my brain thought it should go in this song, but it fit perfectly. There's definitely a bit of sexual tension in the lyrics. I love the sound of this one on the record.

You don't have to wait until March to get a taste of what Tenspoke Indie have to offer, they're hitting the road next month. You can grab the tour dates and preview some of the tracks from 'Blinded By The Sound' - right here!
