Pierre de Reeder (Rilo Kiley) Week: Day 3
08/27/2008
.
(antiMusic) Earlier this month Pierre de Reeder took a step outside his role as the bass player for Rilo Kiley to release his debut solo album, "The Way That It Was." The result is an effort that should satisfy his existing fans as well as open the door to new ones. To celebrate the release we asked Pierre to pick his favorite tracks from the CD and tell us about them. Here is Pierre with today's song: That's The Way That It Was -I really just followed my nose in producing this one, just letting it "go there" with having horns, and tack piano, and frolicking guitar and the like. I got to enlist Dave Trumfio on bass and his brother Harry on drums. Up to that point, I don't know if the two had really laid it down together since they had their band The Pulsars. Anyway, musically, it was just a fun song to build up. Lyrically, it was again inescapably personal and reflective and just sort of a comment both the down and dirty now and the then.
