Joe Cocker DVD

08/18/2008
.
(Kayos) Cry Me A River By Joe Cocker out on DVD September 16. From the treasure-trove vaults of the German WDR-TV's "Rockpalast" series comes the great Joe Cocker soulfully strutting and singing his greatest hits as well as his personalized takes of Marvin Gaye, Procol Harum, Billy Preston, Lennon/McCartney and others. It's an R'n'B soul-de-force as this classic rocker gets down with his one-of-a-kind spasmodic showmanship.

Filmed at Berlin's world-famous Metropol on October 31, 1980, Cocker's in fine voice as he rocks through 12 songs in one hour like a man possessed.

Cocker today, at 64, is still putting out great music. His current album is Hymn For My Soul, released earlier this year. Other exciting Cocker DVDs on Eagle Rock Entertainment include Live At Montreux 1987 (the first of his four appearances at the prestigious fest), Live: Across From Midnight Tour and Respect Yourself: Live. Eagle Records has also put out Cocker's No Ordinary World and Respect Yourself CDs.

Cocker started out in British pubs emulating Ray Charles. He was "discovered" opening for the Rolling Stones in 1963, and his first single was a Beatle cover, "I'll Cry Instead." He found fame in The Grease Band and international fame when he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1969, the same year he appeared at Woodstock, his performance arguably the musical highlight of the whole weekend. He then commandeered the "Mad Dogs And Englishmen" tour, a traveling rock'n'roll carnival, 48 cities in 56 days, known as one of the greatest rock tours of alltime. In the '80s, he went on to enjoy success beyond his wildest dreams including his first #1 ("Up Where We Belong," a duet with Jennifer Warnes) and a string of platinum albums. He's since been one of the most in-demand vocalists of his generation, performing with The Crusaders, singing theme songs for four Hollywood movies, and commanding major audiences around the world with his singular soulful style.
