Dead Kennedys Lose Another Founding Member

08/08/2008
.
(PR) Dead Kennedys founding member Klaus Flouride announced today that he is stepping down as a performing member of the legendary Bay Area-based punk band after more than thirty years.

Due to a reoccurring medical condition, Klaus Flouride has decided that the rigors of touring and the demands of the band were the determining factors in making this difficult decision. Flouride will continue to perform regionally with bands like The American Professionals, The Go Going Gone Girls Band, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy among others but the road has become a grind that is counterproductive to his health.

"Over the past thirty years, I have had the great fortune to have been a founding member of Dead Kennedys," said Klaus Flouride. "It's been tough at times but particularly rewarding working and collaborating with men like Biafra, 6025, D.H., Brandon, Jeff, Ted, Dave, Steve, Skip and especially Ray. However a recurring medical condition called Angioedema has caused me to make the difficult decision to begin withdraw from the road and as a touring member of Dead Kennedys. Thus I have taken my leave as a performing member of the band for the foreseeable future. That said, I am not retiring from music."

In fact, Flouride's musical career continues this month as he will perform with two Bay Area bands. Confirmed live dates are:

08/23 @ The Hemlock Tavern, San Francisco, CA (as part of The Go Going Gone Girls)
08/29 @ The Stork Club, Oakland, CA (as part of The American Professionals)
10/16 @ The Rickshaw Stop, San Francisco, CA (as part of The Go Going Gone Girls w/ Laika and the Cosmonauts farewell tour)

Additional tour dates to be confirmed shortly on www.klausflouride.com which links directly to both his music website www.myspace.com//klausflouride1 as well as his personal musings on www.myspace.com/klausfloudide1.

Klaus Flouride was born in 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. At age 8, Klaus got his first musical instrument – a guitar – and he continued to play guitar until he moved to Boston in the late sixties when he switched to a Danelectro bass. In 1977, Flouride moved to San Francisco and answered an ad in a local music paper and along with East Bay Ray and Jello Biafra formed Dead Kennedys shortly after. Dead Kennedys went on to become one of the most influential and controversial punk bands in the world before their initial hiatus in 1986. During his tenure with the Dead Kennedys and the years that followed, Klaus recorded solo albums, produced bands and recorded with multiple bands. In 2001 Flouride, East Bay Ray, D.H Peligro and various singers reformed the Dead Kennedys. He believes in the power of music.
