(Wind-up Records) Seether have recorded an iTunes Originals program exclusively for the digital music retailer. The quartet entered Groovemaster Studios in Chicago on May 19, 2008 to perform new arrangements of select repertoire, and conduct an extensive interview for inclusion in the release. The half-dozen tunes chosen span the length of Seether's career from their beginnings in South Africa, through their current release FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE SPACES. Additionally, a cover selected by the quartet, alongside six previously released studio album cuts rounds out the complete track listing (below). This release is available exclusively on iTunes BEGINNING TODAY August 5, 2008.
Alongside the musical performances, the program features an extensive interview with band members Shaun Morgan (Vocals / Guitar), Dale Stewart (Bass), John Humphrey (Drums) and Troy McLawhorn (Guitar). The interview covers expansive territory, taking fans from the origins of the band in May 1999 through the process of writing and recording, and a deep exploration into the band's repertoire and personal obstacles they have individually and collectively overcome.
There are stories shared revealing the historical origin of album titles, songs and their specific riffs, many of which have never been shared. The quartet offers a track-by-track synopsis of the non-rehearsed, spontaneous performances featured in this iTunes Originals, frequently beginning with recollections of the inception of songs, sharing the mood and direction that crafted them in to repertoire heard my tens of millions via the Internet and airwaves. Additionally, the members of Seether offer insight in to why they chose to perform an alternative arrangement of a Beatles classic fans would never expect them to perform in this intimate setting.
Singer Shaun Morgan offered, "It was a session we walked into, completely unsure of what the turnout was going to be. We tried to record familiar songs with new touches, and hopefully succeeded. The cover was the most fun, because we went in knowing that people would never expect that song from us, so we had that 'nothing to lose' mentality. It was great fun, and I'm thrilled we did it."
