(antiMusic) If the leaked photos of Miley Cyrus didn't erase the squeaky clean Hannah Montana image, then the photo spread by Annie Leibovitz in Vanity Fair just might. You see ol' Hannah was asked to take off her top for the shoot and complied. Her minders at Disney are apparently not pleased at all. This sparked quite a controversy. On one hand some might say that it was Miley growing up and following the predictable poptart path where the teen princess goes from clean Disney star to provocative sexpot (kind of disturbing since she's just 15). Others, including Miley and Disney, are claiming she was somehow manipulated into doing the shoot which she says she told was going to be "artistic." Perhaps Miley (or her parents and managers) never heard of the David Hamilton's version of "art" before when she agreed to do a "artistic" photo shoot for a magazine known for racy photos of celebs. "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she said in a statement. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."
Vanity Fair have a different memory of what happened, "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day," the magazine told Entertainment Tonight. "Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley."
Disney Channel issued a statement crying foul on Vanity Fair. According to the Orlando Sentinel they said, "Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines."
The Vanity Fair news comes a week after some candid photos appeared online, one showing her exposing her bra. She told People magazine, "The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone."
Now TMZ has come out with an article claiming that the Hannah camp doth protest too much, they reported on Monday, "Miley Cyrus might be boo-hooing about this Vanity Fair shoot, but we're told that her parents were with her 'the entire time' and that they knew everything that was going on. So any suggestion that Annie Leibovitz tricked Miley into taking racy shots are absurd: 'There was no subterfuge,' we're told." Vanity Fair's "behind the scenes" photo gallery
