Nick Drake Reboxed

09/27/07
.
(PR) On November 6, 2007, UME/Fontana will release an updated version of the legendary Nick Drake box set Fruit Tree. Originally released in 1979, Fruit Tree has been out of print for seven years. In addition to all three of Nick Drake's classic studio albums - Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter and Pink Moon, this one time only, limited edition pressing (8,000 copies) of Fruit Tree includes, on DVD for the first time, the Nick Drake biographical film "A Skin Too Few", and a new 108-page book.

The book includes comprehensive lyric sheets, exclusive interviews with Nick's producer Joe Boyd and engineer John Wood who discuss each song Nick recorded under their auspices, a song-by-song musical breakdown and history by Robin Frederick and the original sleevenotes by Arthur Lubow. The sleeves feature replicas of the original Fruit Tree artwork.

Additionally, a limited quantity of the set (2,000 units) will be available on premium vinyl. This vinyl set, which includes the DVD and book, is also a one-time run only. The upgraded reissue gives fans old and new the opportunity to buy Nick's three classic studio albums in one set at a decent price and will be a welcome addition for collectors.

The Fruit Tree release will be marked by two major Nick Drake events in San Francisco, and one in Los Angeles in early October:

Tuesday, October 2nd, San Francisco, CA
San Francisco City Arts & Lectures and Noise Pop present "Remembering Nick Drake," an evening of conversation with Nick's sister Gabrielle Drake, producer Joe Boyd who discovered, signed and produced Drake, and singer/songwriter Jolie Holland. The event, which takes place at The Herbst Theater, is part of the Talking Music Series. More information at: w.cityarts.net/program.talking.music.html

Wednesday, October 3rd, San Francisco, CA
The 8th Annual San Francisco Documentary Festival will screen documentary "A Skin Too Few" at the Roxie Theater. More information at: http://sfindie.com/

Friday, October 5th, Los Angeles, CA
The American Cinematheque presents a special evening saluting Nick Drake at Grauman's Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. The event – titled "A Place To Be - A Celebration of Nick Drake" - includes the official Los Angeles Premiere of "A Skin Too Few" and includes the World Theatrical Premiere of a series of short filmed homages to Nick Drake- created by admirers including Heath Ledger, Jonas Mekas and Tim Pope - collectively titled "Their Place: Reflections On Nick Drake". Special guests Gabrielle Drake, Joe Boyd and Robin Frederick will be on hand for a Q&A panel discussion. More information at: http://www.americancinematheque.com
