(PR) Swerve Festival announced its lineup of live musical performances taking place September 28-30, including We Are Scientists, DeVotchKa, The Black Angels, Bonde Do Role, Illinois, Oh No! Oh My!, Foreign Born, Thee More Shallows, and Snowden. The dynamic lineup features an eclectic mix of internationally known headline acts as well as critically acclaimed up-and-coming artists performing at the Echoplex and in free shows at the Barnsdall Art Park. These live music artists are being booked in association with ASCAP, a non-profit performing rights organization.
The FUEL TV initiative includes the premiere of Anton Corbijn's hotly anticipated biopic Control, the story of Ian Curtis, lead singer of the legendary post-punk rock band Joy Division. Music videos, short film screenings and a dynamic series of activities including art installations will take place at the festival's primary venue-the Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood-over the three day weekend.
"We are thrilled to be programming the music for the inaugural SWERVE FESTIVAL," says Jennifer Knoepfle, ASCAP Director of Membership, Rock/Pop. "It's a great opportunity to combine the creative efforts of ASCAP and FUEL TV to promote music, film, green initiatives and the arts in Southern California, all while providing a unique experience for both our members and the community.
MUSIC
Music begins on Saturday afternoon with a free show at the Barnsdall Art Park. The melodic roots music of Illinois kicks things off, followed by the aggressive indie rock of Snowden and garage pop of Foreign Born. Psych-rock wunderkinds The Black Angels close the day.
SWERVE FESTIVAL presents a late-night afterparty at Echoplex Saturday night featuring Brazilian sensation Bonde Do Role's hybrid of hip hop, funk and electronica. Other acts that will be featured between 9:00 pm and 3:00 am include Juiceboxxx, LA Riots, The Toxic Avenger and DJ's Franki Chan and Paparazzi.
On Sunday, digital hip hoppers Thee More Shallows get the afternoon started with another free show at Barnsdall Art Park, followed by the infectious quirkiness of Oh No! Oh My! and DeVotchKa will end the day with a bang.
The West Coast premiere of Anton Corbijn's Control unspools at 6:00 pm at the Vista Theatre. The film marks the feature film directing debut of the acclaimed photographer and music video director (U2, Depeche Mode and Nirvana among others). The award-winning film world premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
The festival concludes on Sunday, September 30 at the Echoplex with the Festival Award Show and an exclusive performance by Brookyn-based indie rock trio We Are Scientists.
