(antiMusic) The Cult's Ian Astbury has sparked the rampant speculation that Led Zeppelin plan a full out reunion tour next year. Guess who is going to open the tour? Astbury told fans during a show last weekend that the tour was happening. MTV.com says that Astbury told the crowd, "We'll be back next year because we're opening for a band you may have heard of ... the name starts with an 'L' and has a 'Z' in it." After a fan shouted, "Led Zeppelin," Astbury nodded and raised his arm in the air.
In other Zeppelin news, Jimmy Page says the band will play a new song during their London concert. "There's one number that we rehearsed, I assume that it will make it to the Dome (the former name for the O2), that we never played at any point in time. It dates from when the band was together between 1968 and 1980. It's a really intense number."
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page addressed the issue of a full reunion tour in the new issue of Guitar World. "It's a bit silly (for only one date) because there is such a massive demand. It is a bit selfish to do just one show. If that is it we probably shouldn't have taken the genie out of the bottle," Page told the magazine.
Page, frontman Robert Plant and John Paul Jones will reunite for the Ahmet Ertegun education fund benefit show at The O2 in London on December 10th. Led Zeppelin's late drummer John Bonham's son Jason will play in his father's place. Ertegun is the late president of Atlantic Records who signed Led Zeppelin.
