(PR) Jerry Lee Lewis is back, and Time Life has gathered all of his epic television appearances - performances so wild and uninhibited that they completely reshaped rock music – into one DVD collection, JERRY LEE LEWIS: GREATEST LIVE PERFORMANCES. Set for release on May 22, it is the first-ever fully authorized, historical retrospective DVD by this music icon, and follows Time Life’s critically and commercially successful 3-CD box set, JERRY LEE LEWIS: A HALF-CENTURY OF HITS (released in 2006).Jerry Lee Lewis: Greatest Live Performances features 17 unforgettable live performances and two bonus pieces from the ‘50s through the ‘90s. The DVD includes Lewis’ first television appearance, his momentous 1957 performance of “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On” for the Steve Allen Show and his memorable rendition of “Breathless” on the Dick Clark Show – the only live performance ever in the history of that show. The collection also features Jerry Lee in Memphis premiering “Great Balls of Fire” on the Dewey Phillips Show. Perhaps most notable is Jerry Lee’s own television special that aired to an ecstatic audience in England in 1964 and can be seen in its entirety for the first time since the day it aired. Two fabulous performances from the 1970s taken from Ralph Emery’s Pop Goes the Country close out the DVD. On the first, Lewis sings the poignant “Who’s Gonna Play This Old Piano,” and on the second he joins his cousin Mickey Gilley at the piano for a boogie woogie medley. Additionally, the DVD contains one of the most comprehensive and revealing interviews Jerry Lee Lewis has ever done as a bonus feature. Shot at Sam Phillips’ legendary Sun Records in Memphis, Lewis talks in depth about his first historic recordings and his relationship with Elvis Presley and other greats from the era.
