Paul Simon Vs Oasis
03/26/07
.
(PR) AjantaMusic founder and leader Paul Simon, not the Garfunkel one, today announced that he will never attend another BRITS presentation ceremony, not that he has ever been invited to one in the past. "My brother Robin, the other member of AjantaMusic, used to play with Ultravox and Magazine, and I was in a band with Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols. And they give the Outstanding Contribution to Music award to bloody Oasis? Hello?" The 5-foot 6 chillout giant, whose duo is gigantically popular in the Balearics, and also among listeners to the influential National Public Radio programme, Echoes, in America, is similarly disgruntled with the Oscars. "I can understand their giving it to Melissa Etheridge," he grumbles, "in view of no one actually having used one of the tracks from our 2006 debut album And Now We Dream in a film. But somebody bloody should have, innit?" The Simon brothers are presently recording tracks for their not-yet-titled second album in London, though they cling tenaciously to the barely comprehensible Yorkshire accents of their youths.
