Sillyworld of Stone Sour

03/19/07
.
(PR) Grammy-nominated Stone Sour has just unleashed their latest video for the hit single “Sillyworld,” from the band’s latest RIAA gold-certified Roadrunner Records release, Come What(ever) May. Directed by David Brooks for Factory Features and shot on Jan 9th, 2007, “Sillyworld” is chock full of political commentary. The video will start spinning on MTV2 and Fuse, among other stations, this week.

Aesthetically, “Sillyworld” showcases Stone Sour playing to a shifting background of classic stencil images, as frontman Corey Taylor sings the lyrics “I can’t take your Silly World no more.” The simple, two-toned images and muted colors coupled with the band’s stripped-down wardrobe represent a visual display of the meaning behind the song: Taylor’s feelings on corporations, governments, and icons. Images range from government leaders past and present (including a certain Chinese dictator), to major corporate logos (distinct pair of golden arches) to icons of American life (think Orlando’s favorite mascot). The end result is intended to evoke a strong reaction in the viewer - whether it is one of protest, reflection, anger, disagreement or awakening. As long as a thought process is inspired, the message has been conveyed.
