(PR) Barry White DVD—Let The Music Play: The Barry White Story Street Date: 2/20/07 Special Features: Additional interviews and concert footage not seen in the main program. Synopsis: Barry White (1944-2003) was a towering figure in the evolution of modern soul. Now, for the first time, White’s story emerges on DVD via rare archival performance footage and interviews with his widow, his children, his collaborators, the artists whom he influenced and, of course, the man himself. Made with the cooperation and consent of the White family, “The Maestro,” as he was known, comes lovingly to life in these 72 minutes. Dixie Dregs DVD—Live At Montreux 1978 Street Date: 3/6/07 Special Features: Clips from TV’s Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert and American Bandstand Synopsis: The only Montreux appearance of this acclaimed instrumental jazz-rock fusion band resulted in this blistering hour of 11 pieces of pure electric improv and riffs galore by a lineup—drummer Rod Morgenstein, guitarist Steve Morse, bassist Andy West, violinist Allen Sloan and keyboardist Mark Parrish—that seemed to totally anticipate each other’s every musical move. Canned Heat 2 DVDs—Live At Montreux 1973 and Boogie With Canned Heat: The Canned Heat Story Street Date: 3/6/07 Synopsis: A double-disc which consists of the previously-released Montreux set (73 minutes) and a new documentary of the hard-living band (140 minutes) that includes tremendous remembrances of a bygone era and its excess from those who survived it, including current band members (the band still tours), management and others who were there to see it first-hand. Amongst the unflinching anecdotes, a picture of the late frontman Bob “The Bear” Hite is lovingly but realistically created. Long seen as the original model for The Blues Brothers, Hite’s rise and fall is a 1960s cautionary tale if there ever was one. Seu Jorge CD—Live At Montreux 2005 Street Date: 3/6/07 Synopsis: The CD version of last year’s DVD, Live At Montreux 2005 features exotic worldbeat Seu Jorge-style. The Brazilian superstar gained stateside fame by appearing in Steve Martin’s The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou movie, strumming David Bowie songs on his acoustic and singing them in Portuguese. His Cru was an international best-seller and the basis for most of these 10 scintillating live tracks, heavy on percussion and soul. The Steve Morse Band DVD—Live In Baden-Baden Germany March 1990 Street Date: 3/6/07 Special Features: Morse rocking rare in 1984 with drummer Rod Morgenstein and bassist Jerry Peek on “Refried Funky Chicken,” “Northern Lights,” “Pride Of The Farm” and “Rock’n’Roll Park.” Plus, a promo clip of “Cruise Missle.” Synopsis: Widely hailed as a “musician’s musician,” guitarist extraordinaire Steve Morse (of the Dixie Dregs and Deep Purple) is seen here leading his own trio with bassist Dave Larue and drummer Van Romaine on German television for a 72-minute 12-song set of spiraling fusion.
