Buckcherry Sued Over Name?

02/02/07
.
(antiMusic) We got an anonymous call on Friday telling us that Buckcherry is being sued over their name. The caller, who identified himself only as Mike, said that he sent over a copy of the lawsuit via email but it must have been eaten by our spam filter because we can't find it. At this point we have no idea if this is legit or not and have no details but we're looking into it. If it's legit we'll give you more info, if it's not put in your hoax bank next to Courtney Love judging on American Idol.

[Update: This was news to the band's publicist who doubts the validity since the band has had the name for 10+ years. We're hoping to hear confirmation from the band's management either way soon but as for now the hoax box is filling up!]

If true this isn't the first lawsuit filed against Buckcherry since their recent resurgence. Last September they were sued by an under age girl that appeared in one of their videos. Below is the press release their PR people out at that time about that suit.

In response to a lawsuit filed September 7th in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleging that rock band Buckcherry and its labels, Warner Music Group and Atlantic Records, willingly allowed a 16-year-old girl into a music video shoot, Buckcherry’s attorney, Skip Miller of the Century City-based firm Miller Barondess, LLP, has issued the following statement:

“The attorneys for the plaintiff (identified only as Jane Doe) have been talking to the press about this case. We feel it is necessary to set the record straight. The claims in this case are entirely unfounded and without merit. Strict precautions were taken to ensure that only those over the age of 18 would gain access to the music video shoot. The casting ad called for over-18 talent only, signs were posted to that effect at the venue, and IDs were checked at the door. This woman not only used a phony ID to gain access, but filled out and signed a talent release form with what we now know to be false birth date information to match her phony ID. She was later seen boasting into the camera about her exploits in the video.

"This lawsuit was filed almost a year after the video was shot, only after the financial success of the band. We are going to defend this action vigorously and let the evidence speak for itself.”
