(PR) It's her first CD in seven years and Mieka Pauley has hit the ground running. "Elijah Drop Your Gun" (DIY) is full of beautifully potent songs by this singer/songwriter from Boston, MA, that her fans crave. In fact, they love Mieka's lyrical magic so much they paid for the CD. Concerned with the costs of putting an album together, Mieka decided to pre-sell copies of her CD online, in various packages for different prices. The result, she thought, would be possibly a few thousand dollars. She did not expect to raise over $16,000. And all of it came from her fans. A Harvard graduate with a degree in biological anthropology, Mieka has been playing venues in Boston, New York and across the country for many years. Her voice is layered with emotion and has the earthiness of Aretha Franklin, the smokiness of Billy Holiday and the modern day folk rock sounds of Patti Griffin and Neko Case.
Combined with her stellar songwriting, Mieka has already carved out a path for herself in today's music scene. Three of her songs are in rotation on NPR affiliates WUMB and WERS in Boston, MA and her song "Stronger", her first independently released radio single was added into regular rotation at Top 10 Market Tastemaker Station WBOS 92.9 FM in Boston.
Mieka was the winner of the first ever Starbucks Emerging Artist Award in September 2005 and has toured with and opened up for artists such as: Eric Clapton, Citizen Cop, Aimee Mann, Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Wyclef Jean and many others. Northeast Performer calls her "a version of Sarah McLachlan with a switchblade in her shoe."
