(antiMusic) Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman is executive producing the new film, Endless Bummer. It's a coming-of-age comedy set in 1984, centering on a group of teen surfers growing up in Southern California. According to his publicist, Lyman co-wrote the story along with JD Drury, upon whose life the film is based. Lyman is also helping to develop the film's soundtrack, which will consist of early 80's new wave and punk hits covered by a variety of veteran Warped Tour Artists, including Bad Religion, the Vandals, Action Design and Anti-Flag.
Here is the latest press release about the film: Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby Doo) has joined the cast of Lighthouse Entertainment’s upcoming teen comedy, Endless Bummer, as the film commences principal photography this week. Directed by Sam Pillsbury, the film’s ensemble cast will include Aussie film star Khan Chittenden (Introducing the Dwights), rock legend Joan Jett, Jane Leeves (Frasier), Caitlin Wachs (Divine Secrets Of The Ya Ya Sisterhood, Kids In America), Allison Scagliotti (One Tree Hill, The TV Set), Colton James (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, The Cell), Ray Santiago (Meet the Fockers) and Andy Fischer-Price (Surf’s Up).
When a surfboard is stolen from a Ventura, California beach one sunny day in the summer of 1984, its anguished owner takes to the road with his band of misfit friends and drives to the San Fernando Valley to confront the thief and recover his prized possession. Shooting on location in Ventura and the San Fernando Valley, the film is based on the real-life experiences of screenwriter John “J.D.” Drury.
Lillard, who recently completed A-Mark Entertainment’s, American Summer, will play a veteran surfer and local surfboard craftsman who shaped the stolen board. His character accompanies the group as they embark on their adventure.
Lighthouse’s Steven Siebert (The Darwin Awards, The Rookie) produces alongside Drury, Todd Wiseman and John Sclimenti (Riding in Vans with Boys). Rosemary Marks (Thirteen) will co-produce.
Siebert commented, “This is a genuine story of a pivotal day for a group of young Ventura surfers in 1984. We are excited to be working with such a talented ensemble of young actors, each of whom brings a unique element to the real-life personalities they are portraying.”
Kevin Lyman, founder of the annual Vans Warped Tour music festival, will executive produce alongside Darren Quon. The film’s soundtrack will include modern renditions of now-classic 80’s favorites, re-recorded by a number of featured Vans Warped Tour artists, including Bad Religion, The Vandals, Action Design and Anti-Flag.
Lyman commented, "It's been amazing watching this film evolve. Endless Bummer epitomizes the journey and adventure experienced by kids growing up in Southern California during the punk era of the 80's, but the decisions, struggles and adrenaline-driven lifestyle are something everyone can relate to, regardless of when and where they spent their teenage years - its relevance is timeless and has no boundaries."
The summer festival and its wintertime counterpart, Lyman’s ROCKSTAR Taste of Chaos tour, will be integral in the marketing and promotion of the film. Special previews of Endless Bummer will be available for concert goers at next year’s Vans Warped Tour.
