The song “Between the Lines” came to fruition after Ragan met with directors Ty Ponder and Scott Bass through a mutual friend. Following a day-long surf trip and a briefing on the film, Ragan took books of transcribed interviews home, and days later delivered a song interpreting the Vietnam War and its effects on two men’s lives, thoughts and balances; the natural born fighter and the natural born peace maker.

“For me I believe the most important part of seeing this film and having the opportunity to write a song for it, was the learning,” says Ragan. “Recognizing the past days, lives lost and freedom made like those in Between the Lines was essential and shouldn’t be taken for granted. Learning from others mistakes, realizations and true inner victories put the words ‘freedom’ and ‘war’ in completely different frame for me. I am proud to have been invited to take part.”

“Chuck spent the afternoon with us reviewing film material and reading books filled with transcribed interviews,” said Between the Lines director Ty Ponder. “In just a few days, he wrote a gritty song reflecting the atmosphere of the Vietnam era and capturing the content and spirit of the project.”
