Aretha Can't Take the Heat

08/13/07
.
(antiMusic) Aretha Franklin disappointed Motown fans on Sunday because she couldn't take the heat. The famed singer called off her hometown concert due to concerns over east coast weather that has caused her recent shows in the region to be "sweltering and all but overwhelming."

On Friday Franklin announced that she was pulling the plug on her Sunday night concert at the DTE Energy Music Theatre because of the east coast heat wave. In a statement she said "Following the Weather Channel and the daily reports in the news via television and newspaper publications, I see that the temperatures in Detroit have been very similar, [to the east coast locations of her recent concerts]" she said in the statement. "I am exhausted from the heat and cannot tolerate heat in these extremely high numbers and being in concert simultaneously."

Maybe she should have used the web for better info? At 4:00 PM local time the Weather Underground reported that it was 86 degrees in Motown and Clarkston, Michigan (where the amphitheatre is located). They also report that it was 108.4 in the Western Hills of Yucca Valley where antiMusic is headquartered. But as long as there is cold beer we won't let a little thing like the heat stop us. Ok, the air conditioner helps too and the beer explains the typos.
