(Filter) Sad news today as Factory Records
founder and Manchester hero Tony Wilson passed away at 57. The Salford-born
Wilson - famous for discovering bands like the Happy Mondays and Joy Division
- succumbed to cancer.
He was diagnosed with the disease in 2006
and subsequently underwent surgery and chemotherapy to stop it from spreading.
When chemotherapy failed to beat the cancer, the drug Sutent was recommended,
but the expensive treatment was unfortunately not covered by the NHS.
However, the Happy Mondays banded together
with other Manchester musicians that Wilson had supported to start a fund
to help pay for his treatment. - more
