musicNEWS: Madonna Clueless About Her New Competition.
09-29-03 Keavin
.
It’s always a good idea to know your competition but Madonna apparently seems to believe the rules don’t apply to her.

The controversial pop star, whose albums no-longer seem to fly off the shelf, is taking a stab at a second income by once again taking up authoring. This time instead of a sex book, she opted for the other end of the spectrum by authoring a children’s book.

According to the Times of India, Madonna’s much hyped foray into the world of children’s literature, “The English Roses” is based on “four 11-year-old English schoolgirls, named after friends of Madonna's daughter. The four girls cold-shoulder a poor, little, rich kid, also modeled on Madonna's daughter, without realizing her life may not be quite as perfect as it seems.”

Despite her book publisher’s claim that Madonna has a "lifelong passion for and deep familiarity with literature and children's books", when asked about one of the most famous children’s authors of the past 100 years, the popstar drew a blank.

The Times of India reported the following exchange between Madonna and a member of the press:

Asked by one British reporter what it was "like to be known as the next Enid Blyton", Madonna looked puzzled and replied: "Who's that?"

The reporter replied: "She wrote the Famous Five!" But the singer persisted: "What's she done?"

The reporter mumbled something about "all these children's books...", but Madonna asked sharply: "Is she any good?"

The reporter said yes, and a happy Madonna concluded by saying: "Oh good -- in that case I'm happy to be in her company."

However, going by what critics have to say about “The English Roses”, it is doubtful that she will become the next Blyton.
