New Yorks Bottom Line Saved At The Last Minute.

One of New Yorks legendary nightclubs, The
Bottom Line, was on the verge of becoming history but they received a last
minute reprieve in a deal cut in a courthouse hallway, according to the
Associated Press.
In June, the club received a reprieve from
eviction from their clubs landlord New York University, with hopes that
a new lease agreement could be reached. At that time they had fallen 17
months behind in their rent.
The club was on the verge of having to
shut their doors when satellite radio network Sirius came to the rescue
on Wednesday, offering to post the $185,000 the club owners own in back
rent into an escrow account that would pay off their back rent in the event
that a new lease is signed.
Things were coming to a head in a Manhattan
Civil courtroom, where council for the University were prepared to press
ahead with a trial to evict the owners of the nightclub, but after having
a conversation with the owners in the hallways of the courtroom during
a recess they agreed to return to the negotiating table.
If the club owners and the University can
not come to terms on a new lease in the next four weeks, the money will
be returned to Sirius.
The Bottom Line is one of New Yorks legendary
night clubs. Over the past three decades they have featured performers
ranging from Bruce Springsteen to Jazz legend Miles Davis.
