Phish bassist Mike Gordon can now breathe
a sigh of relief. He is officially off the hook on the child-endangerment
charges that were brought against him last month for taking a 9-year-old
girl into an abandoned boathouse behind the Jones Beach Theater in order
to take art pictures without her parents knowing. (see
story)
On Friday, Gordon appeared before a judge
in the District Court of Nassau County in Hempstead, New York. Acting on
the district attorneys recommendation the judge dropped the charges against
him, according to VH1.com.
"We immediately moved to dismiss the charges,"
said Rick Hinshaw, a spokesman for the Nassau district attorney. "While
police had probable cause given the complaint, we didn't feel that there
was substantial evidence to prove a crime beyond a reasonable doubt."
The parents of the girl declined to press
charges against Gordon.
Gordon issued a statement after the charges
were dropped, "I'm glad all the charges against me have been dismissed
and I can put this misunderstanding behind me. I'm grateful for the support
I've received from my friends and family."
