.
Steve Martin just may be the man to tackle
the role of Inspector Jacques Clouseau in a remake of The Pink Panther.
MGM is developing the project with producer Ivan Reitman and says that
Martin is the top choice to take on the role played by Peter Sellers in
the original 1964 film.
. But Martin has not yet signed on the
dotted line. There are press reports citing sources that say Martin has
read the script and is still considering the part.
The 1964 film kicked off a franchise of
films featuring the bumbling French detective. Sellers took on the staring
role in five Panther films. Roger Moore and Alan Arkin also took at stab
at the roll of Clouseau in subsequent installments.
