Musical friends and admirers of Johnny Cash
are set to perform at a tribute concert to the legendary country star.
What was originally billed as a public
memorial service for Cash now seems to have developed into a tribute concert.
On September 26th JohnnyCash.com announced, “A public memorial service
for Johnny will be held on November 10, 2003 at the Ryman Auditorium in
Nashville, TN.”
It appears that the event will be much
more than that. Cash’s publicist Lou Robin told the press on Thursday that
Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Sheryl Crow, Hank Williams Jr., Jack
Clement, Steve Earle, Larry Gatlin and Cash's daughter, Rosanne are all
scheduled to perform.
There are hints that Bono, Bob Dylan and
Bruce Springsteen will also appear at the event, with NME.com reporting
that they will appear.
Tickets will not be sold for the tribute
show. The Associated Press reports that some seats will be reserved for
Cash’s friends and other musicians, with the remaining seats being made
available free of charge to the public via a lottery system.
Johnny Cash also respectively known as
the Man In Black, died at the age of 71 on September 12th from complications
from diabetes. He is considered by many as one of the most influential
artists in country music history but his influence didn’t stop with country,
artists from many other genres also cite Cash’s influence.
