Update 10-31:Stone Temple
Pilots / Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland got to celebrate part of
his birthday in jail. The singer turned 36 on Monday and it appeares that
he did a little early celebrating and was arrested for driving under the
influence alcohol and drugs and misdemeanor hit-and-run following a traffic
collision that occurred in Hollywood Monday morning, according to a report
from Blabbermouth.net.
Weiland was driving alone near the corner
of Melrose and Orange avenues in Hollywood at approximately 6:30 a.m. when
he lost control of his BMW and struck several parked cars. He allegedly
attempted to leave the scene of the accident and was quickly apprehended
by police.
Weiland was released from jail Monday afternoon
after posting $15,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles
Municipal Court on November 17.
Prior to his latest arrest, Weiland had
completed most of the drug testing and counseling required after he pleaded
no contest in August to two felony drug-possession charges. Judge Colette
Serio told the singer in a Pasadena, California, court last week that he
may remain free while he tries to kick his habit, but that could change
should he not test clean. He was due back in court for another progress
report in January.
Update: Slash has gone on record stating
that Weiland was not under the influence at the time of his arrest. Here
is a posting from Snakepit.org.:
Many of you have sent in the bad news that
Scott Weiland was arrested again. After reading what we can find out on
this, we were very discouraged. The facts as we know them are that around
6:30 am (according to the police report), Scott lost control of his car
and crashed into a parked car. This occurred in Hollywood. What happened
next is exactly what you don't want to do when you have an accident...leave
the scene. Actually, Scott only attempted to run away, but he was caught
almost immediately by the police who arrested him on one misdemeanor charge
of driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs. Now, although this is
what you are reading all over the net from usually reliable sources, our
most reliable source, SLASH called today to correct the record. He said
to tell everyone that Scott did have the accident and did attempt to leave,
but he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. What he was doing
out and about so early is anyone's guess...maybe heading to the studio?
Maybe picking up his birthday cake...it was his 36th birthday Monday! We're
willing to take SLASH's word on this. To finish the story, Scott was released
on $15,000 bail with a court appearance scheduled for November 17. Hopefully,
before then the charges will drop to a traffic violation. Scott is a colorful
character, and it looks like he is going to give us all some tense moments,
but the band stands behind him and with him. Thanks, SLASH, for that update!
And thanks to Norm and ZeeshanH who sadly sent in the original story.
Update 10-31: Weiland
was ordered on Thursday (Oct. 30) to report to a live-in detox program
followed by six months in a residential drug rehab center, according to
Reuters.
Pasadena Superior
Court Commissioner Collette Serio said on Thursday that she would allow
Weiland out of the residential facility for a 10-day period starting Nov.
7 for four hours a day so that he can finish recording an album with his
new band VELVET REVOLVER.
Weiland will be taken
to the recording studio by a police officer and tested for drugs immediately
on his return.
(thanks
for Blabbermouth for this report)
