Will Ferrell’s new movie “Elf” was the true
master and commander of the U.S. box office this past weekend beating out
Russell Crowe’s new film and the Matrix to land at No. 1.
“Elf” debuted at No. 2 last week behind
“The Matrix Revolutions” but it was the clear winner this weekend taking
in an estimated $27.2 million.
“Master and Commander” came in a close
second with $25 million. “The Matrix Revolutions” dropped to third place
and 66% with $16.3 million.
Family films dominated the middle of the
Top 10; Disney’s “Brother Bear" came in 4th earning $12 million and “Looney
Tunes: Back in Action” debuted at No. 5 with $9.5 million.
"Love Actually" actually earned $8.9 million
placing it in 6th place. “Scary Movie 3” is still going strong, bringing
in an addition $6.1 million and a 7th place finish. “Radio” was turned
on to the tune of $5 million.
“Tupac: Resurrection” brought the slain
rapper glory with $4.7 million premier and a 9th place finish with a limited
release. And “Mystic River” rounded out the Top 10 with a $3.3 million
take at the box office.
