musicNEWS:  Weiland and Guns N’ Roses Pairing Official, Group Now Called Velvet Revolver.

Scott Weiland is now officially a part of “The project”, a new band consisting of former Guns N Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum and former Loaded guitarist Dave Kushner. It appears that the group has settled on a official name, Velvet Revolver.

Will this spell the end of Stone Temple Pilots?  It depends on whom you listen to. The STP camp says that Weiland officially leaving the group is news to them but Velvet Revolver publicist Arlett Vereecke was quoted by various press outlets last week stating that Weiland has left the group to devote his full attention to the new band.

The task of filling the singer slot was a long and hard journey for the group. Several high profile singers tried out for the group which was originally slated to be fronted by former Buckcherry singer Josh Todd. There was even talk at one point about doing a reality TV series for VH1 on the talent hunt. There is no word if that is still in the works, possibly showing footage of some of the auditions and Weiland’s eventual landing of the gig.

The band is planning to begin recording of their debut album soon with an eye towards a 2004 release. Music from the group has already been released via the big screen. The band contributed a cover of the Pink Floyd classic “Money” to the soundtrack of the new film “the Italian Job”.

An original song called “Set Me Free” is also set to be included in the forthcoming “Hulk” movie soundtrack.
