The Day in Rock - A look at Top Rock News Stories From Across the Web.

Here are some of the biggest stories from yesterday-- July 18, 2003.

Pearl Joke
In the spirit of UnFaith’s little internet hoax about Metallica suing them for using guitar chords and all of the news organizations that picked up the story without verifying it, we re-ran an updated story from one year ago as a new news item yesterday. Only one person appeared to pick up on it and emailed us. No other pubs ran with the story this time, like the time aG reported that A.J. from the Backstreet Boys took a 2 week crash course on guitar to join Limp Bizkit. But FYI, Pearl Jam released their 7th album, “Riot Act” last year and are no longer contractually bound to Epic.

We know of no new Pearl Jam studio CD on the way, sorry to get your hopes up.  But the bit about the Mexican tour was real.

(disclaimer – this is the first time we have ran a story like this. Sometimes we place humor into an article, like the BSB joins Limp Bizkit article mentioned above, but be assured that we are not in the habit of reporting bogus stories, or unverified stories. If we report rumors they are labeled as such.)

Limp Guitarist.
Limp Bizkit guitarist Mike Smith injured his back in New York during a one-off concert on Wednesday and was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a pinched nerve.

Smith suffered the injury at Webster Hall when he jumped while playing and landed wrong. Despite being hurt, he finished the band's entire set before entering an ambulance outside.

He will reportedly be fine in time for the band's tour with Metallica and Linkin Park but just in case Fred might want to give ol' A.J. from the Backstreet Boys a call as a backup.  - Click Here for the Full Story

Flaming Lips Teaming Up With Radiohead For TV?
From Launch: Flaming Lips leader Wayne Coyne recently said there's a chance they'll team up with Radiohead for an unusual collaboration.

Coyne told the British publication, NME, "We're talking about doing a couple of things. I know there is a sort of experimental TV show that comes out of Chicago that we're both scheduled to do. The show typically pairs people together of the same ilk. They've been wanting to get us up there for a while, but they haven't found anybody that seemed worthy of a show... Radiohead are talking about doing it, so we could start there around about the middle of September." - Click Here for the Full Story

Velver Revolver Working With Bob Ezrin
From Blabbermouth.net: VELVET REVOLVER, the new band formed by STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland and former GUNS N' ROSES members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, will enter the studio on July 28 with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, JANE'S ADDITION, ALICE COOPER, PINK FLOYD) to record the song "Slither". The track, which was previewed at the group's live debut in Los Angeles last month, is expected to be the only studio cuton VELVET REVOLVER's upcoming EP of the El Rey Theatre performance, tentatively due on October 7. "It's just to tide people over — and tide ourselves over — until the [full-length] album comes out," Slash explained to Entertainment Weekly. "The show sounds pretty good for a raw, rock 'n roll representation of what we're about, with mistakes and all."

The band's full length debut will not be called "Chinese Democracy", but with Ezrin involved maybe it will be called "Music From the Revolver"? - Click Here for the Full Story

Sk8ter Girls?
This one comes from one of the coolest hard rock sites on the web, UnEarthed.com. With The Vans Warped now in its 9th running year, founder Kevin Lyman introduces the first annual GIRLZ GARAGE TOUR, in conjunction with Hurley International and Creative Artist Agency kicking off on October 20 in Boston for a 26 city trek ending in Detroit on November 23.

The GIRLZ GARAGE TOUR will embrace an organic mixture of female musicians that are ready to steal the stage.  This eclectic bill offers a diverse cross section of bands that are already clouding the airwaves, ranging from rock to punk to hip-hop.   But will Avril headline? - Click Here for the Full Story

Rolling Rappers
From Much Music: A Rolling Stones' classic is in for an overhaul. The  Stones have enlisted some all-star producers to remix their "Sympathy For The Devil". The Neptunes, Fat Boy Slim, and Full Phat have all signed on to create remixes of the track, which was originally released on 1968's "Beggar's Banquet" album. The new versions will first be released in Europe - where the Stones are currently on tour - and later this year in North America.

"Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself, I'm the One With the Bling Bling".  Might be cool, but still sounds like a bad idea.  - click Here for the Full Story
