antiMUSIC’s very own Greenmuse predicted just
a few short days ago, “…the mullet will make a comeback in 2003. Never
since the 70s will it be so rampant. Men women and children will all have
them. Gone will be the days when the mullet family spotting is a rare treat.
It will become such a trend that the non mullets will now be the subject
of numerous crazy people poking fun at them, perhaps one guy might even
make a career out of talking about non mullets by writing lots of silly
articles about non-mullets. The Mullet is coming back, and there is crap
all you can do about it!”
It now appears that the Green one may have
been right or at least read the minds of some executives at Epic/Legacy.
On March 4th, Epic/Legacy will release
a two-CD set called “Mullet Rock”. The tagline they are using for the CD
is simple, "Play it loud, wear it proud.”
The 35-song collection will feature rock
anthems from the 70’s and 80’s when Mullet’s reigned supreme.
The humorous liner notes are said to point
out that, "It's not just a hairstyle, it's a lifestyle." The liner notes
go on to name some of the highest profile musical mullets of the past including
Journey's Steve Perry, Loverboy’s Mike Reno, and REO Speedwagon's Kevin
Cronin. Curiously absent from the collection is material from one of the
best selling groups that sported a frontman with a Mullet during their
heyday, the one and only Def Leppard.
Despite the absence of “Pour Some Sugar
On Me,” the two disc set does contain some of the best known rock anthems
from the 70’s and 80’s, including Mountain’s “Mississippi Queen,” Deep
Purple’s “Smoke on Water,” Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded,” and Foghat’s “Slow
Ride”. That’s just the first four songs!
So get your Flowbee’s ® ready for the
triumphant return of the Mullet!
