musicNEWS:  Terrorism Shuts Up Kelly Osbourne

Her record company may be marketing Kelly Osbourne as an anti-Britney but it turns out she does have something in common with the pop singer; fear!

Last August Spears called off a concert in Mexico City after performing only four songs because she was afraid of possibility of being struck by lighting due to the thunderclouds that had formed in the sky near the stadium she was performing at. (see story)

It wasn’t lighting that scared Kelly Osbourne into canceling a performance; it was the threat of terrorism. Kelly was scheduled to “sing” her single “Shut Up” at the NME awards last Thursday but called off the performance after seeing images of tanks and soldiers patrolling near London's Heathrow airport.

The Associated Press reported that, “Britain has sent hundreds of soldiers to Heathrow, Europe's busiest airport, and beefed up security at airports and other sites this week after police warned that al-Qaida might try attacking London during this week's Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.”

Naz Ahmed, a spokesperson for Osbourne explained to the press, "Kelly's parents were in New York on Sept. 11 when the Twin Towers came down so you can imagine how they feel.

"The decision wasn't taken lightly and Kelly has thought long and hard about it,” said Ahmed.  "She is upset that she can't come to Britain because she was really looking forward to it. But as well as herself and her parents, she also has a whole crew and band to think of and she has decided not to take the risk."

There wasn't a terrorist attack during the awards show but there is speculation that if Kelly had gone through with her performance, a bomb would have indeed hit London on Thursday night.
