Police in Sydney, Australia recovered reel-to-reel
tapes of the Beatles, reportedly containing material recorded during the
Abbey Road and White Album sessions.
The police found and seized the tapes during
an early morning raid of a western Sydney home on Friday. It is believed
that the tapes were stolen from the Beatles Abbey Road studios in 1969.
Detective also recovered album artwork.
A 27-year-old man was arrested during the
raid but was later released without charges being filed and police have
turned over the tapes to a musicologist to determine their authenticity.
The police believe that the tapes are either
original studio recordings or professionally made copies. There is no word
at this time, whether the tapes contain previously unreleased songs.
The raid was undertaken as part of an ongoing
international crackdown on piracy. Last month more than 500 reel-to-reel
tapes containing music recording during the Beatles Let It Be sessions
were recovered during two similar raids in England and The Netherlands.
