Backstreet Boy School?

Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson has teamed
up with his childhood friend, Keith McGuffey, and opened up a music academy
in Louisville, Ky.
The name of the academy is The Music Workshop
and provides instruction for would-be performers, songwriters and producers.
You may know McGuffey from his rapper persona
Trey D. According to AP he is also a certified instructor of Pro
Tools (audio recording software) and a songwriter. He is set to teach classes
on digital recording and production equipment.
What active roll Richardson will take in
the day to day at the academy is unclear. But there are reportedly plans
to add a full recording studio in the future.
"When me and Keith were growing up in central
Kentucky there wasn't any real outlet for us. If we wanted to get information
about the music industry we had to travel to get any real solid input,"
Richardson told AP.
Richardson says that the teaching will
go beyond the studio and musical talent areas and also instruct students
in the biz. "You'll learn how to record a demo, how to shop a demo and
who you need to get it to," Richardson said.
When the academy begins taking on students
in September, the classes will be open to amateurs in all age groups (at
least those that can come up with the money), but the focus will be on
teenagers. And Richardson hopes that one day the academy will be accredited
so that students will earn credit towards a degree.
