It appears that some hackers didn’t take too
kindly to the bogus Madonna mp3’s that have flooded the net over the past
week or so. Most fans that went online using filesharing programs in order
to try and preview songs from Madonna’s new album “American Life,” were
out of luck as bogus files were used to flood these services.
This is a new tactic used by record companies
to try and combat illegal mp3’s. The idea is to frustrate those who would
steal artist’s music by trying to download illegal mp3’s by flooding services
like Kaaza with bogus copies of the songs.
One of the bogus mp3’s used to trick filetraders
was a looped message from Madonna where she asked "What the f*** do you
think you're doing?"
Hacker(s) fought back by hacking into Madonna’s
official website and posting real mp3 copies of the tracks along with a
message that read "This is what the f*** I think I'm doing", according
to The Smoking Gun.
Madonna.com was reportedly taken offline
for nearly fifteen hours after the hack was discovered.
