After comments she reportedly made to The
Detroit News sparked controversy, Kelly Osbourne now claims that she was
misquoted.
Last month, The Detroit News printed excerpts
from an interview with Kelly where she blasted MTV. She was reportedly
upset with the network for not playing her new video enough.
"MTV makes me sick to my stomach," Kelly
said in the interview. "Did you know they only play 35 videos a week? It's
so stupid. MTV used to be all about breaking new artists. Now, if you're
not in a rap group, if you're not talking about 'I f***ed the cutest girl
in school' or if you're not singing about skateboarding, you can't get
played."
Philly.com reports now that MTV has began
playing the video, she denies making the comments to the Detroit News.
According to Philly.com Kelly told Us, "The writer changed my words around
completely."
Osbourne also posted a message on her official
website denying the MTV bashing. “I am very upset about comments attributed
to me regarding MTV,” reads the blurb on her website. “I wholeheartedly
deny ever saying anything negative about MTV. Everyone there is like family
to me, and I would never say anything bad about them. I was clearly misquoted
and I want everyone to know that I LOVE MY MTV.”
Damage control, damage control!
antiMUSIC Setting the record straight.
antiMUSIC got caught up in this controversy
after we originally reported Kelly’s comments to Detroit News last month
(see story
– Kelly Osbourne Bites The Hand That Made Her.) We are not quite
sure who started it but hundreds of publications around the globe erroneously
reported that Kelly made the comments to antiMUSIC, not the Detroit News.
Publications ranging from NME in the UK, to the New York Post and even
our hometown paper The Orange County Register, attributed the interview
quotes to antiMUSIC. Unfortunately, we have no control over what other
publications run. It appears that one publication ran with the story and
others simply copied it and the reporters didn’t bother to take a couple
minutes to click over to antiMUSIC to read our story to verify the source.
Ooopps.
So we can neither confirm or debunk the
comments attributed to Kelly in that interview, which she now denies making
but we can tell you firmly that she didn’t make those comments to antiMUSIC.
We typically only take the time to interview real or credible musicians.
Although in the opinion of this writer,
it is possible that the Detroit News “misquoted” Ms. Osbourne, it is unlikely.
How can you misquote, “MTV makes me sick to my stomach”? On the other hand,
maybe she meant to say, “MTV was afraid my video would make people sick
to their stomachs”?
