John Lennon Tooth Owner Aims To Clone The Late Beatle
(Classic Rock) The dentist who won John Lennon's tooth at auction in 2011 is aiming to clone the late Beatle, he's claimed. Michael Zuk paid $32,000 for the souvenir two years ago, and at the time said he'd put it on display in his practice.

Now he's revealed he's working with US scientists in an attempt to extract DNA from the tooth. Zuk states: "I am nervous and excited at the possibility that we will be able to fully sequence John Lennon's DNA – very soon, I hope.

"With researchers working on ways to clone mammoths, the same technology certainly could make human cloning a reality," he said. "To potentially say I had a small part in bringing back one of rock's greatest stars would be mind-blowing." more on this story

Motley Crue Won't Have Fake Farewell Tours like KISS
(hennemusic) Motley Crue singer Vince Neil says the metal band's plans to retire in the next few years are 'real' and that they won't hold multiple farewell tours like KISS.

"It's definitely for real," Neil tells the Oakland Press. "We want to go out on top. We don't want to be one of those bands that people are like, 'Oh, they're playing a ... little club now. We still sell out arenas and do stadium shows and stuff like that, and that's how we want to be remembered."

"It's just time," he continued. "Mick's (Mars) health is not that good, and touring is tough on him. I'm sure in five, 10 years' time we'll probably do something together again, but it's not gonna be like a KISS farewell to the farewell to the farewell tour. We're not gonna be like that." But Motley Crue does have some more plans before they retire.

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Doubted He Could Tour Due To Cancer
(Classic Rock) Tony Iommi doubted he'd be able to tour with Black Sabbath after being diagnosed with cancer, he's admitted. And he knows he'll have to undergo exhausting treatment for the rest of his life.

He announced he was suffering from lymphoma in January 2012, just weeks after Sabbath announced they'd be making their first album with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978′s Never Say Die.

In the following months he struggled to continue recording duties while received treatment for his illness – which was partly responsible for the band failing to reach agreement with departed drummer Bill Ward.

Now Sabbath are touring to promote the album, 13 – and Iommi is delighted to be part of it. "To be honest, I was wondering whether I could do it. I have to treat life very differently now," He tells MercuryNews.com. "This, for me, has been a big challenge. So far it's been okay. The medical thing is still going on; it'll be ongoing, really, for life – it's not going to go away." A lot more from Tony here.

Maynard James Keenan Says Tool Moving Forward On New Music
(TeamRock Radio) Maynard James Keenan is sidestepping any blame over Tool fans long wait for new music. Their last album was 2006's 10,000 Days. Since then, various band members have offered various reasons for why a follow-up hasn't appeared.

Guitarist Adam Jones recently admitted it was "hard" getting together to write, saying: "We live kind of cushy lives now, so we get together when we want. It makes everything go slow, which is unfortunate."

Now frontman Keenan has hinted things are finally moving – but only because he's been leaning on his bandmates. He says: "I'm going to stop by the rehearsal space today, having beaten them up, going, 'Please give me music. Please give me music. Please give me music. Please give me music. Please give me music.' more on this story

Journey's Neal Schon To Be Inducted Into Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame
Journey guitarist Neal Schon is set to be honored in his native state tomorrow night, (August 23rd) when he is inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.

The induction is set to take place prior to Journey's concert at The Joint Hard Rock Event Center tomorrow night, according to the band's press representative.

"The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame is thrilled to induct Neal Schon to kick off the first of a number of events planned in Tulsa and OKC," says OMHOF's Executive Director, Jim Blair.

Schon was born at Tinker Air force Base, which is located southeast of Oklahoma City. He began his professional career at 15-years-old when he left home to join Santana during their early '70s peak and recorded with them on the 1971's "Santana III" and 1972's "Caravanserai" albums.

Having relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, by 1973 Schon went on to form the group that would become Journey with The Tubes' Prairie Prince and Frumious Bandersnatch's Ross Valory and George Tickner. Schon's fellow Santana alumni Gregg Rolie joined the group soon after.

While the Journey lineup has evolved over the years with different musicians, Schon has been the only consistent member since it's formation until today.

Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame will hold its induction ceremony at the Mabee Center on October 15.

Nightwish's Tuomas Holopainen Working On Next Album
(TeamRock Radio) Nightwish mainman Tuomas Holopainen has revealed three tracks are already written for the follow-up to 2012's Imaginaerum. But he's still not giving any thought to whether he'll keep vocalist Floor Jansen, who replaced Anette Olsen at short notice last year.

"I have three songs done already. It's something a bit different," Holopainen says. "Imaginaerum is the most theatrical, most orchestral album we've ever done. It felt like the right thing to do at the time.

"I don't really know what we're going to do next – I have a gut feeling it's going to be something a bit more simple, a bit back in time.

Singled Out: SWF's Black & Golden
Today SWF tells us about his song "Black & Golden" which Team Coco debuted the music video for last week. SWF's debut album "Let It Be Told" will be released on October 8th. Here is the story:

The defining moment for "Black & Golden" came when we were recording in the studio in Memphis. I was playing a totally different version of the song live, to a beat I had made on an SP-404 sampler, that was weird and syncopated, inspired by a Haitian drumming class I was taking at the time.

When I sat at the kit to lay down the drums, Jake Rabinbach, who produced the record, asked me to instead play a super simple, Moe Tucker-inspired beat, digging into the floor tom instead of the hi-hat. What we ended up with was a driving, rock & roll rhythm that really captured the sound and spirit of the song.

Dropping out the beat at the end was always how I heard the song in my head, with the harmony lines coming in one at a time, but adding that big kick drum really brought the song home.

It took us an entire year to shoot the music video for "Black & Golden", starting in Chinese New Year 2012 and ending on New Year's Day 2013.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video (see if the song doesn't get stuck in your head) right here!

Magenta Release The Lizard King Video
(Prog) Prog Magazine has premiered the video for new Magenta track The Lizard King. It's taken from the band's sixth album The Twenty Seven Club, due for release on September 2 – and composer Rob Reed is convinced it's their best work yet.

"If there was ever a blueprint for what Magenta is about, I think we've achieved that vision," He tells Prog. "I hope people who have dismissed us in the past will give this album a try – we've raised the bar. The songs and production are the best we've done."

The single version of The Lizard King is cut down from the 12-minute epic that appears on the record. Reed says: "We chose it as the lead track because it represents what the whole album is about: great songs, melodies and musicality."

The Twenty Seven Club has been five years in the making, and it's inspired by the group of artists who died aged 27, including Jim Morrison (known as 'The Lizard King'), Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain. Check out the video here.
