Guns N' Roses Member Sparks Police Investigation
The Las Vegas Police Department have launched an internal investigation after a member of Guns N' Roses and his fiance were given a private ride in a police helicopter, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Guns N' Roses guitarist DJ Ashba posted photos online of a "private tour over Vegas" in a police helicopter that he and fiancι took. "That was the most incredible day of our life!!" the guitarist posted on his Instagram account. "Special thx to the Las Vegas Police Dept. for the most amazing helicopter private tour over Vegas!"

A Police spokesperson confirmed to the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the department has launched an internal investigation into the matter. Department officials are reportedly livid about the helicopter ride in light of a tragic accident last month.

Search and Rescue officer David VanBuskirk was killed last month after he fell while being hoisted to a helicopter during a late night rescue of a stranded hiker.

Read the Review-Journal's report for more details and the photos here.

Dave Grohl Secret Unmasked
(TeamRock Radio) One of Ghost's Nameless Ghouls has revealed that Foo Fighters mainman Dave Grohl has performed with the band, dressed in their regulation cloak-and-mask outfits.

Another member of the Swedish outfit recently admitted it was probably just a matter of time before their identities were uncovered – but until then, at least one big-name musician has gone the other way by hiding behind their stage costumes.

Asked by Jack Osbourne of Fuse whether previous collaborator Grohl has ever done just that, the latest Ghoul to speak says: "As a matter of fact he has. I can't really… but underneath that cloak it was Dave Grohl." more on this story

Neil Young and Crazy Horse May Never Ride Again?
(Classic Rock) Neil Young and Crazy Horse have been forced to cancel the remainder of their current UK and European tour after guitarist Poncho Sampedro broke his hand. And it could mean fans on that side of the Atlantic have seen the last of them because Sampedro has already said he believes they're currently on their final journey.

The band, who previously appeared in the UK in June, were due to play in Liverpool on August 18 and London the following night, with additional shows in Belgium, Norway, Denmark and Germany.

Sampedro is reported to have suffered a mild fracture, and he's predicted to make a full recover in time for their North American shows at the end of the month.

But he recently told Rolling Stone: "My gut tells me this is really the last tour. I hate saying their ages, but I'm 64 and I'm the baby of the band." more on this story

Group Pushing For Rock Hall To Say Yes To Yes
(Prog) Republican and Democrat political operatives in the US have united to form a bi-partisan group aiming to have Yes inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The move comes after the Rock Hall finally honored Rush earlier this year, having all but ignored prog music since it opened its doors in 1983. Voices For Yes is billed as "the only known bipartisan effort in Washington DC" – and while that's not entirely true, it's still unusual for conservatives and liberals to work together in a common cause.

Republican media operative John Brabender, who's attended more than 40 Yes shows, tells The Atlantic: "I've been a Yes fan for decades. The genesis – that's a pun – was two things. One, wouldn't it be fun to work for once on a campaign where you were really passionate about the candidate and knew it was the right thing to do?

"And two, wouldn't it be fun if you brought together Democrats and Republicans in an all-star team to go out and do it?" See who else is involved in the effort

Queen Musical 'We Will Rock You' North America Tour
(Radio.com) After a 12-year run in London's West End and numerous international productions, Queen's jukebox musical, We Will Rock You, will tour North America for the first time this fall.

The musical comedy was written by British comedian Ben Elton (Mr. Bean) and centers around 24 of the band's biggest hits including "Another One Bites The Dust," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "We Are The Champions," "Bohemian Rhapsody" and (no surprise here) "We Will Rock You."

The show also features characters, whose names are taken straight from Queen songs, including Galileo, Killer Queen and Scaramouche. The plotline involves bohemians from the future who are trying to save society from its own sameness, as well as its ban on art, which doesn't sound daunting at all.

After a stateside touring production of We Will Rock You was scrapped in 2004, the show made its North American debut with a Las Vegas run from 2004 to 2005.

We Will Rock You is produced in conjunction with Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor, along with Tribeca Theatrical Productions, which was co-founded by Robert DeNiro in 2001. Yes, Bobby D had a hand in this. more on this story

Skinless End Hiatus
Skinless have announced that they will be ending their two and half year hiatus to headline the third day of Delaware Deathfest which will be taking place in Wilmington, DE at Mojo 13 on October 4-6th.

Frontman Sherwood Webber had this to say, "We're back, the classic Skinless lineup has always had an undeniable live chemistry and it's time to unleash the beast again. We're all old buddies and if we have the opportunity to destroy some stages around the world again, it feels right….who knows what's next?!? In keeping with the old Skinless credo of not giving a f**k…we're back to destroy….we can't let Exhumed have ALL the fun!

"Also….. if you ever told me that we'd be playing with Brutality when I was 15 years old listening to the Screams Of Anguish tape in Noah's Camaro, I would never have believed it, this is awesome!!!!"

Guitarist Noah Carpenter adds, "This is the lineup that put Skinless on the metal map, so it's great to be back. We won't be the road dogs of the past, but we'll be playing some select festivals and drinking all their beer. So sit back, slip on your absorbent undergarments, and let the mayhem begin......again!!!" more on this story

Greg Ginn Explains Black Flag Lawsuit Against Former Bandmates
Black Flag founder Greg Ginn has addressed the controversy surrounding his decision to sue his former bandmates Henry Rollings and the other members performing under the Flag banner.

Ginn explains: "The dispute over Black Flag is not motivated by an effort to stop anyone from covering Black Flag songs. Quite to the contrary. this dispute began when Henry Garfield (Rollins) and Keith Morris made an effort to hijack the name — and the logo — for their own use.

"Behind everyone's back, in September 2012, Garfield and Morris filed fraudulent trademark applications in which they are claiming to own the name and the logo.

"Had we not taken action, this pair could have snuck these false applications through the Trademark Office, enabling them to stop Black Flag from playing and gaining exclusive use of the name and logo for themselves.

"We are also trying to stop Morris and the others in his band from using the name and the logo in a misleading way, and from selling bootleg items."

Thin Lizzy Inspired Original Dio Members To Reunite
(TeamRock Radio) Vivian Campbell says Thin Lizzy are to blame for the original members of Dio reuniting as Last In Line. The Def Leppard guitarist has got back together with drummer Vinnie Appice, bassist Jimmy Bain and keyboardist Claude Schnell, with vocalist Andy Freeman replacing the late Ronnie James Dio.

In an interview with TeamRock Radio's Dewsbury, he says: "I blame Thin Lizzy – I did a stint with them in 2011 and it reignited my passion for playing guitar again. So I came off that tour and called Vinny, Jimmy and Claude, just to play for the fun of it. Then Vinnie called up Andrew Freeman, he started singing and that was it."

Campbell admits it took him many years to recover from the pain of being fire by Dio – a move that led to both of them making negative comments about the other in the press.

"It was very painful for me," he says. "It's taken a long time for me to come to terms with it. It's a big part of my heritage and I'm very happy to be out there reclaiming it." more.

Paul McCartney Rocks Beatles Classics At Outside Lands
(Radio.com) Paul McCartney thrilled a crowd of 65,000 people at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park to close out the first night of Outside Lands 2013, whipping out a cavalcade of hits to warm up the chilly night air.

Taking the stage just after 7 p.m., McCartney launched into Beatles' classic "Eight Days A Week," then rollicked through a nearly three-hour set. Macca trotted out Wings songs often – like "Live and Let Die" with pyrotechnics launching off from atop the stage – before ending with the sing-a-long song to beat them all, "Hey Jude." As if it's possible, even bigger Beatles' hits highlighted the encore, including "Day Tripper," "Helter Skelter" and "The End."

While fog, mist and even a little drizzly rain hung over the festival for the most of the day, the crowd rolled with the autumnal weather, with a plethora of stylish fashion statements being made by women and me alike — animal-themed hats and flower crowns were prevailing sartorial trends.

Nile Rodgers and Chic played a revelatory set of classic dance music, schooling a sea of younger fans in his bottomless catalog of hit songs. "Good Times" and "Le Freak" were played of course, as well as classics the band wrote for Diana Ross ("Upside Down") and Sister Sledge ("We Are Family") and a rousing rendition of David Bowie's 1983 single "Let's Dance." Rodgers ended the show with Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" playing over the sound system, as he thanked the crowd for "making it No. 1 in 97 countries." Other Day 1 highlights

Def Leppard Frontman Explains Vegas Show Caught On New Live DVD
(TeamRock Radio) Def Leppard will release a live DVD, Viva! Hysteria, in which they play their blockbuster album in full, on October 21st in the UK and 22nd in North America – and it's set to appear in cinemas too.

It was shot during their Las Vegas residency earlier this year and marked the first time ever they'd played any of their records from beginning to end. Frontman Joe Elliott says: "We've been asked for many years if we'd ever do it, and the answer was always 'no' because we'd be out promoting a new album.

"Then in March and April 2013, when we had no new music to promote, we had a chance to revisit arguably our most important album. It was an easy decision to make.

Viva! Hysteria will be available in CD/DVD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital formats. Cinema showings are being planned and will be announced in due course. more on this story

Nine Inch Nails Go High-Tech at Outside Lands
(Radio.com) Armed with a state-of-the-art light show and an arsenal of tracks both classic and new, Nine Inch Nails dazzled the main stage capacity crowd on the second night of Outside Lands 2013.

Boasting the same awe-inspiring staging featured at the band's recent Lollapalooza performance (inspired by the Talking Heads' legendary 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense), Trent Reznor and crew changed up the set list, running through three new songs in a row — "Copy of A," "Disappointed" and "Came Back Haunted" — all taken from the upcoming eighth NIN full-length, Hesitation Marks.

The fan-pleasing set touched on a wide range of Nine Inch Nails' vast discography, including albums like 2008′s The Slip ("1,000,000"), 1992's Broken EP ("Help Me I Am in Hell," "Gave Up"), 1996′s The Fragile ("The Way Out is Through") and 1994 rarity "Burn," from the Natural Born Killers soundtrack.

Reznor also delved into the band's earlier material, digging into storied 1989 debut Pretty Hate Machine for "Head Like a Hole," "Terrible Lie" and dark-lit ballad "Something I Can Never Have."

"Closer," i.e. the one NIN song non-fans know, generated a gleefully profane crowd sing-along, while new song "Find My Way" already sounds like a standout track from the forthcoming Hesitation Marks. more on this story

Black Sabbath To Receive Living Legends Honor
(Gibson) Black Sabbath will receive Classic Rock magazine's coveted Living Legend award at a ceremony scheduled for November 14 at London's Roundhouse. Previous recipients of the honor include Jimmy Page, Alice Cooper and ZZ Top. Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne was presented the award as a solo artist in 2008.

The veteran rockers have also been nominated in the categories of Band of the Year, Album of the Year and Event of the Year. Sabbath's latest album, 13, reached the top of the U.K. charts – the group's first Number One showing in 43 years. Among the other albums vying for Album of the Year honors are David Bowie's The Next Day, Deep Purple's Now What?! And Queens of the Stone Age's ...Like Clockwork.

"We're delighted to welcome Black Sabbath to collect our Living Legend Award," said Chris Ingham, publisher of Classic Rock. "It's wholly deserved as not only do they have a career to celebrate, but Ozzy, Geezer and Tony blasted back with a brilliant new album in 2013 that reminded us all how it should be done."

"It's good to be a living legend," commented Osbourne. "It's better than being a dead one." more on this story

Panic! At The Disco Singer Reacts To Losing Member
(TeamRock Radio) Panic! At The Disco drummer Spencer Smith has left the band's current US tour to deal with his drugs problem. He recently admitted he'd been fighting addiction for four years – but believed he was on the mend. Now he's dropped off the road to give his issues his full attention.

Frontman Brendon Urie admits: "It's become evident Spencer still needs more time to take care of himself. I can't expect him to be fighting addiction one minute and be fully immersed in a national tour the next.

'The tour will continue without Spencer while he is away getting the help he needs. Thank you all for your support and kind words." Urie says watching his friend's struggles is one of the most difficult things he's ever endured

"I figured if we ever got into drugs or partying, that we would phase out just as quickly," the singer reflects. "And for a while, we seemed to do just that: phase in and out of consciousness without worrying about future consequences." more

Soil Release Amalgamation Video
(TeamRock Radio) Soil have released a lyric video for their track Amalgamation. It's taken from upcoming album Whole, their first with original frontman Ryan McCombs, who left in 2004 to join Drowning Pool.

The band say it's a return to their classic sound and the record could have followed 2001 release Scars. Guitarist Adam Zadel reports: "This was by far the most comfortable and natural recording process we have ever experienced. From the writing, pre-production, and through the main tracking and mixing, everything was smooth and fluid."

Whole features drumming by Will Hunt of Black Label Society, Evanescence and Device, with guest guitar work by Mike Mushok of Staind. Check out the song here.

Soulfly Release Bloodshed Video
(TeamRock Radio) Soulfly have released a new lyric video for their track "Bloodshed". It's taken from their upcoming album Savages, due out in October via Nuclear Blast.

Frontman Max Cavalera, formerly of Sepultura, comments: "A lot of my music is used in war. I have letters from people who were in Desert Storm saying, 'I was flying over the desert with Arise on my headphones and I was f**king sh*t up!'

"I never even imagined when I wrote those records that some people were going to use the music for stuff like that," he continues. "It's wild how my music has traveled. We even have fans in Iran, which is crazy to think about – metal is illegal there. It's outlawed by religion and by the government.

"It boggles my mind how it must be to be a metal kid in a world like that. Those are the real fans – that's the real sh*t right there." Check out the video here.

Megadeth Unplug For Radio Special
(hennemusic) Megadeth recorded a five-song acoustic set for SiriusXM Radio in New York City last Thursday. The band played "Symphony Of Destruction", "She-Wolf", "Kingmaker", "Foreclosure Of A Dream" and "Countdown To Extinction" for SiriusXM's rock channels Liquid Metal, Octane and Ozzy's Boneyard.

SiriusXM Director of Programming & DJ Jose Mangin interviewed Megadeth for Liquid Metal and recorded a Liquid Metal takeover and also took part in something a little extra.

After the band finished the acoustic set, Mangin picked up Dave Mustaine's Dean Mako acoustic guitar to play "Holy Wars" along with the band; with a smile on his face, Dave then taught him how to play it correctly. Towards the end of the interview, Mustaine presented his Dean Mako to Jose as a parting gift. more on this story

Lou Reed's 'Berlin' Album Turns 40
(Gibson) Lou Reed's classic album 'Berlin' turned 40 this year and Gibson takes a look back at the famed effort: Lou Reed was still trying to find his voice as a solo artist when he recorded Berlin in 1973.

The LP was a rock opera in an era of rock operas and thematic experimentation with the album format. Although the disc was decidedly of its time — and featured the core of guitarists Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter who would record the classic Rock 'n' Roll Animal with Reed the next year — it was panned by Rolling Stone upon its release in July 1973.

Nonetheless, Berlin expanded Reed's following and his reputation as a chronicler of the demimonde and has come to be recognized as a classic in the 40 years since it was recorded. Ironically, it scored at 344 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums in 2003.

Reed's third solo album remains challenging listening to the casual rock fan. Less challenging than Reed's 1975 Metal Machine Music, his experiment with electronic noise collage, of course, but Berlin's narrative isn't always clear and it's a radical departure from the raw vitality of the Velvet Underground, which he'd left in 1970, with orchestral arrangements and the horns that would spill into the next year's Sally Can't Dance. Reed also capitulated his gnashing guitar, playing only acoustic six-string and leaving the heavy lifting to the όber-capable team of Hunter and Wagner.

Berlin 's story line was also incredibly dark, even for fans of Reed's grittiest Velvet Underground songs like "Kill Your Sons" and "Heroin." Once again his characters were drug addicts — Caroline and Jim, a couple in the throes of horrible dysfunction. Jim is a meth addict who beats Caroline. She is also a drug user and cheats on him with other men as she becomes increasingly withdrawn. After her children are taken away by the state, she commits suicide, and Jim reacts with numb nihilism in the set's concluding "Sad Song," writing off their relationship as a waste of his time and opining that another lover would have broken both of her arms. Not cheerful.

Berlin , as well as Reed's other early work, had an obvious influence on punk rock's thematic sway, as well as on proto-punks like the New York Dolls, and on a gritty, sex-and-drugs school of film and theater directors epitomized by Todd Haynes and Gus Van Sant. Although the album pales lyrically and musically alongside such brilliant, better written and highly praised subsequent albums as The Blue Mask (1982), New York (1989) and Magic and Loss (1992), Berlin remains a revered part of Reed's cannon. more.
