"I saw those guys just yesterday," she said. "I went over to visit them in the studio where they were working on some new stuff – they sound amazing! How can Jerry [Cantrell] not sound amazing, but I mean, it really does – they're a monster."

The album will be the follow-up to 2009's Black Gives Way to Blue, which was the first Alice in Chains album to feature singer William DuVall (in place of the late Layne Staley). more on this story

Jack's Mannequin Set New Release
Jack's Mannequin have set an October 4th release date for their new record, People and Things.

Says Andrew McMahon about People and Things: "I consider 'People and Things' a relationship record. My goal with many of the songs was to strip away the flowery language and sentiment attached to newer love and replace it with starker, less blinded language about more binding love. In the time following the last Jack's album the people in my world were moving in together, getting married, trying to find quote unquote 'real jobs' and reconciling new lives that looked a lot less like youth than some of us cared for. Marriage is a bit of a beast to tackle in a pop record but when I wrote 'My Racing Thoughts,' it became clear how powerful and loaded a subject this kind of love is and somewhere in that moment I began to lock into the broad concept for the writing sessions to come."

Jack's Mannequin is playing a couple of dates on this year's Warped Tour before heading out on a co-headlining summer tour with Guster. Additionally, for the first time in the band's history, Jack's Mannequin will be playing a show with a full symphony orchestra. On Thursday, October 6th, Jack's Mannequin will team up with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra to create symphonic arrangements for some of their best-known hits at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts.

Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson: Singer, Pilot and now Doctor
(hennemusic) Call him Dr. Dickinson, if you please. Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson received an Honorary Doctorate Of Music degree from Queen Mary University in London on Tuesday in honor of his contributions to the music industry.

Dickinson has some familiarity with the University and vice versa: he earned a degree in history there back in 1979.

Turns out young Bruce was using college as a way to buy time while he pursued his real passion: music. While his parents wanted to see him in the army, Bruce told them that he wanted to get a degree first. "That was what they wanted to hear so that was my cover story," he later explained. "When I got down there, I started immediately finding and playing in bands."

Beyond his skills as a musician and song-writer, Dickinson is also an author, film script writer and TV broadcaster, a champion fencer, entrepreneur and commercial airline pilot. Bruce currently flies Maiden around the world in the band's customized Boeing 757 called Ed Force One. more on this story

Red Hot Chili Peppers Penned 70 New Songs
(Gibson) When making their new album, the Red Hot Chili Peppers certainly had plenty of songs to pick from. Bassist Flea said the group wrote 70 songs for I'm with You, which is due in August.

"What was important to us when we put the record together was to make sure that each song filled its own space and was not like another song on the record," he told BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat. "We wrote 70 songs, so it's not even necessarily all the best ones that we put on, but just the ones that occupy their own space."

The bass player went on to say that the Peppers' new single, "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie," in no way expressed the complete picture of what fans can expect from the upcoming album.

"I like the song. It's a cool, simple, funky, little jam but it's completely different, there's nothing else on the record that sounds anything like it," Flea said. "It's a tricky one because all of the songs on the record are so different." more on this story

Paul McCartney's The Love We Make Documentary To Air in September
(Gibson) The Love We Make, a film documentary chronicling Paul McCartney's experiences immediately following the 9/11 attacks, is set to premiere on Showtime on September 10. The film will be broadcast on the night prior to the 10th anniversary of the historic tragedy.

McCartney was inside a plane on the tarmac of a New York City airport when the attacks occurred. The film, shot in black and white, focuses on the activities undertaken by the former Beatle as he prepared for the "Concert for New York City" benefit show staged six weeks later. Speaking about the concert, McCartney said, "It was an honor to be able to help New York and America at that time in its history. There was a feeling of shock and fear in the air that I thought we could help alleviate with music. And the fact that so many people stepped up to join us made for a very uplifting evening for us all." more on this story

Watch Aerosmith In The Studio
(hennemusic) Aerosmith are currently in guitarist Joe Perry's home studio – The Boneyard – working on the group's first album of new material since 2001's "Just Push Play."

The band regrouped July 5 to start working with longtime producer Jack Douglas on the project; Douglas worked on such classic Aerosmith albums as 1974's "Get Your Wings," 1975's "Toys in the Attic," and 1976's "Rocks," as well as 2004's collection of blues standards, "Honkin' on Bobo."

"We're working on the album right now," singer Steven Tyler recently told Boston's Fox News. "We go on tour November/December, and we should have the album finished in a couple of months." A new clip of Perry and Douglas at The Boneyard discussing gear setups based on some things Joe learned from guitarist Ry Cooder has been released by the band. Check it out

Rob Zombie Rededicates Himself To Music
(Rock News Desk) Rob Zombie admits he let his music career slip in favor of directing movies – because his bad experiences made him want to turn his back on metal.

But with a revamped attitude he's realised he needs both aspects of creativity in his life, and believes the "high school mentality" of music is behind him. "I slacked off on music because the band I had at the time had become a miserable situation," Zombie tells the Toronto Sun. "There was too much in-fighting. Too much of that nonsense always takes place and I just couldn't take the high school mentality.

"So that just naturally took me out of it and that was when I started doing films." But Zombie finally had a change of heart, and now intends to strike a better balance between his two interests. more on this story

Jimmy Page Has Big Online Plans
(Gibson) Guitar legend Jimmy Page, who recently launched his first official website, says that having an ever-changing site was extremely important to him. It's part of the reason he came up with the idea for the "On This Day" feature, which will spotlight different moments in Page's career with Led Zeppelin, as a solo artist and otherwise.

"I had the idea for a long time and I proposed to use it on the Led Zeppelin web site, because I thought it would be an ideal way to portray Led Zeppelin's history," he told rock writer Pete Markowski. "Curiously enough, there are now sites popping up doing this everywhere. So I knew I had a sound idea.

"It's an interesting concept because every day you are going to have an event from my life and it will go all the way back to me being a teenager, still at school and playing in London bands while I lived in Epsom – which at the time seemed miles away. So it starts from there and the next day it could be when I played at the Olympics, because my career spans several decades. It looks random, but it isn't. I love the idea that there will be a 'splash' page every day and nobody will be able to guess what's coming next." more on this story

Lady Gaga Aspires To Be Like Iron Maiden
(hennemusic) Lady Gaga continues to dominate headlines everywhere she goes, and she continues to express her love of hard rock and heavy metal while doing press for her latest album.

In an interview with SiriusXM this week, Gaga raved about her passion for Black Sabbath, AC/DC and, specifically, Iron Maiden.

The pop star saw Maiden live in Tampa in April and came away totally inspired by the experience. "I just saw Iron Maiden on their 'Frontier' tour and it totally changed my life," said Gaga. "It was my first Maiden experience and I just realized, in that moment in the show, that that was the kind of artist I wanted to be. I didn't want people 30 years from now coming to see my show to see if I've still got it. But rather I wanted them to be fully unified, fists in the air, wanna hear every song. Iron Maiden's a lifestyle and those fans live and die by Maiden." more on this story

Derek Sherinian Sets New Solo Album Release
Derek Sherinian has announced that his new solo album 'Oceana' will be released on Monday September 5th in the UK. Here is the info his peeps sent over:

This is, however, 2011, and in this age, Derek Sherinian is the premiere rock keyboardist of his generation, a member of the supergroup Black Country Communion, a former member of Dream Theater, and a solo artist in his own right.

Sherinian has played keyboards with artists including Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Yngwie Malmsteen and KISS. In addition to being a former member of Dream Theater, Sherinian was also a member of the prog rock band Platypus, and the founder of the progressive fusion metal band Planet X. more on this story

Judas Priest's Rob Halford Explains Metal's Staying Power
(Gibson) Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford recently discussed the staying power of metal. In an interview with Wales Online, the singer spoke to the genre's longevity with fans.

"I think it's because metal is the working man's bread and butter," he said. "With metal, it's not about how slim you are, how beautiful you are and doesn't have any discriminating qualities like lots of other musical styles do. It's just wonderful music that appeals to everyone, and at its core, it just has that blue-collar, everyman attraction."

Judas Priest certainly have some staying power of their own. They're currently on the road, celebrating 40 years as a band.

"It's still a thrill for all of us in the band. It's exciting, and it's about connecting with the fans," he said. "We've never lost focus on the fact that we've been given this great life by the fans that have supported us all along, and this is our way of saying thank you, by going out on a massive world tour that takes almost two years to complete. We're one of the few British metal acts who can go all around the world." more on this story

Black Cobra Finish Recording New Album
(Earsplit) Black Cobra have completed the recording process of their upcoming fourth full-length album, set for release in the Autumn months ahead.

For the recording of this, the band's second release for Southern Lord Recordings, Black Cobra recently ventured across the continent to pound out their anticipated new album, the follow-up to 2009's massively well-received Chronomega. This time around the outfit enlisted the talents of Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou and his God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts for the first time. After a brutal week-and-a-half in the notorious lair, 'Cobra hammered out what will soon be known to the world as their almighty fourth full-length album, the album title now confirmed as Invernal. A full track listing, album art and other specific details will be announced in the shortly, but from an advance listen to the unmastered output of this savage outfit, we are confident in confirming that this is Black Cobra's most honed and diversified material to date, and will definitely tear your face off completely.

While Black Cobra's full-on tour cycle for Invernal has not yet began, as it undoubtedly will very shortly, the band have in the meantime been confirmed for several shows over the coming weeks, including an appearance at The Power Of The Riff Festival in Los Angeles on August 18 alongside Eyehategod, Pentagram, Winter, Pelican and more, a direct support spot for High On Fire in Oakland on August 27, an appearance at MusicFest Northwest festival in Portland and more. A rigorous amount of touring will continually be announced through the rest of 2011.

Johnny A Hitting The Road
(Gibson) One time sideman (for Bobby Whitlock and Peter Wolf) and now world-renowned solo artist, Johnny A. has announced a European tour covering Holland, Germany and Belgium.

One of the most expressive guitarist of his generation, Johnny A. is a believer in the importance of melody and tone.

He said in a statement: "I'm always interested in dynamics and tone far more than the amount of notes played. What's most important is that every song has a strong, clear melody; not how fast or flashy the solo is going to be. That's a lesson I learned when I fell in love with The Beatles and other bands of the British Invasion, which is still my favorite era in music." more on this story

Elvis Presley's Death Anniversary To Be Commemorated With Comic Book
(Gibson) A group of acclaimed comic book artists plan to commemorating the 35th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death next year with a lavish, limited edition collection of illustrations of the rock and roll legend. In addition to featuring work commissioned from graphic artists from around the world, the book will include, according to a press release, "numerous hand-written notes and musings, rarely seen by the public and written in the margins of various books owned by Elvis."

Presley once told a crowd of conventioneers, "When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was the hero of the comic book. So every dream that I've dreamed has come true a hundred times."

Produced by Liquid Comics and sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises, the collector's edition of Graphic Elvis carries a price tag of $195 and will be limited to a run of 2,500 copies. The Day Jim Croce's Leroy Brown Was The Baddest Man All Around
(Gibson) Leroy Brown was badder than old King Kong, meaner than a junkyard dog and the subject of Jim Croce's first chart-topping single. It was a big turning point in the singer-songwriter's career, which had seen its share of hits in the previous year, but none like "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," which began a two-week run at #1 on this day in 1973.

The song, about a nasty character from Chicago's south side who gets what's coming to him at the hands of a jealous man, bears a striking resemblance (at least in its story) to one of Croce's earlier hits, "You Don't Mess Around with Jim." Both feature big, tough dudes who eventually find trouble when they run into even bigger, tougher dudes. The main characters in each song were based on a real guy, whom Croce had met during a stint in the army.

"I met him at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. We were in lineman [telephone] school together," Croce explained. "He stayed there about a week, and one evening he turned around and said he was really fed up and tired. He went AWOL, and then came back at the end of the month to get his pay check. They put handcuffs on him and took him away. Just to listen to him talk and see how 'bad' he was, I knew someday I was gonna write a song about him." more on this story

(Gibson) Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister has admitted to sleeping with more than 1,000 women over the years. However, according to the Daily Express, he doesn't think that's an especially high total.

The rock star stated in a new documentary, Lemmy: The Movie that he thinks 1,000 "isn't that impressive as I'm 65 and I've never married, so it's not many a year."

Speaking of his age, Lemmy also says he has no plans to retire: "I'm going on until 2047 then I'm planning to slow down a bit." more on this story

Singled Out: Corey Lamb's It's A Good Day
Today Corey Lamb tells us about his brand new single "It's A Good Day" from his forthcoming album "Break the Cycle," which comes out in September. Here is the story:

"It's a Good Day" started with the chorus and the song quickly found its own message. In my experience, powerful songs do that – the song comes to life and leads the way to what needs to be said. Once the message came along, we knew the melody had to be fresh and light. We wanted it to be uplifting to fit the song's message.

The story line for "It's a Good Day" is something most people – especially kids - can relate to. Who doesn't want to be famous and rich? Meeting important people and people wanting to meet you? The story is about living life never satisfied, always looking for something more. "It's a Good Day" takes the listener through what many people believe will make you happy, but as the song progresses, we can see that what's really important is helping others. Giving someone the hand-up – feeding hungry children and being part of something big. In my mind, that is what's truly important.

This song shows that being a regular guy and helping others can give you the chance to have many good days. Life is a gift that we all receive; we should make it count and be thankful for what we have and the opportunity to help others.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
