Jani Lane's Final Recording Release Postponed
(Rock News Desk) Justin Murr of Liberty n'Justice has postponed the planned release of Jani Lane's final recording, and apologised to friends and fans of the tragic singer for having appeared to act insensitively. Former Warrant singer Lane, 47, was found dead in a California hotel room last week, having struggled with alcoholism for many years.

His last recorded work was the track Sin with Murr's band, and earlier this week it was announced the single would be made available months earlier than planned because colleagues felt people should hear it.

But the move provoked a backlash – and Murr has held back the release. "When I woke on Tuesday morning I had 322 emails. Some stated they couldn't wait to hear the song and others were condemning me for exploiting Jani," he says. "Included in these emails were over 30 requests from radio stations wanting the song to play as soon as possible. The last were the most convincing: they were from people close to Jani, asking me to wait till at least after the funeral." more on this story

Mixed Signals About Black Sabbath's Possible Reunion
(Rock News Desk) Tony Iommi made a statement about a Black Sabbath reunion because he was "pissed off" over news coverage – and not because it isn't true, says the guitarist's manager.

Speculation erupted on Monday that Iommi and Ozzy Osbourne were writing material to be recorded with Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. The story started as an exclusive on MetalTalk.net and was then followed up by the Birmingham Mail, who reported a conversation reporter Andy Coleman had with Iommi in June. The guitarist told Coleman at the time that he and Osbourne were writing songs which sounded like their classic-era material, and they were struggling to keep the news quiet. Iommi then released a statement slating the Mail's article – but, crucially, he didn't suggest the quotes were untrue.

"He's not saying it wasn't true," His manager Ralph Baker now tells Coleman. "He's not denying the guys have been talking – but we haven't got anything in place. He made those statements to you in June and he felt he made them off the record." more on this story

Rocker Calls Out For Help
(Rock News Desk) Guitarist Adam Bomb has appealed to his fans to help him keep his family together as he struggles through the worst year of his life.

The former TKO axeman, currently touring with his solo band, lost his wife Claire to cancer last month, following the death of his father and that of a close friend. Now legal wrangles have left him unable to access his bank accounts, and he faces having his 11-year-old daughter Blaise taken off him by Social Services.

Bomb, real name Adam Brenner, says: "I could use your help – I'm in deep sh*t. Overnight I became a single parent. The lawyers are freezing all accounts and forcing me to go under. I need to prove I can make a living to the lawyers who want to take everything. more on this story

Primus Preview New Album
(Gibson) Primus haven't released a new studio album in 11 years, which is something that frontman/bassist Les Claypool says was deliberate. "Primus had hit the creative wall by the end of the '90s and Primus needed to sit," he told Spin. "Like a good compost, we needed to ferment and turn the manure and garbage into fine, nitrogen rich dirt."

Fans can hear exactly how the trio fermented during the decade on Primus' new album, Green Naugahyde, due September 13. The band, which features Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Jay Lane, have revealed a new song, "Tragedy's A-Comin'," which you can hear here.

Of the new song, Claypool says: "Lyrically, this is me focusing on eventual demise or at least the notion that big rain is coming and at some point I'm going to get pretty [expletive] wet. Who says lemmings can't dance as they go over the cliff?" more on this story

Alice Cooper To Debut New Nightmare Songs This Friday
(skh) Alice Cooper's sequel to his 1975 classic Welcome to My Nightmare won't be released until September 13, 2011, but "Coop" will preview select tracks in their entirety and offer his personal commentary on his syndicated Nights with Alice Cooper radio show on Friday, August 19th.

Coop kicks off the program with the world debut of W2MN's first single, "I'll Bite Your Face Off," and he'll pick other favorites from the 14-track album, including "Runaway Train" and "I Gotta Get Outta Here" to tease and talk about during the show. W2MN, recorded with longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin (who produced the original multi-platinum Welcome To My Nightmare album in 1975), picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.

On this special W2MN premiere edition of Nights with Alice Cooper, Alice dishes on the array of collaborators on the new CD, including original Alice Cooper members Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith (reunited on three tracks!); global pop superstar Ke$ha, and legendary Alice and Lou Reed guitarist Steve Hunter, who is part of Alice's current touring band and featured prominently on the first Nightmare album. During the five-hour program, the show will follow its normal format in addition to airing the world premiere tracks, and that means popular recurring NWAC segments like "Cooper's Closet Classics," "Freaky Facts," "This Day In Rock" and boatloads of classic rock songs will be broadcast as well.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers Deliver New Video as Flea Talks Break Up Thoughts
(Rock News Desk) Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Flea admits his thoughts about splitting the band when guitarist John Frusciante refused to return are nothing new.

He reveals he's felt it was the end of the road many times before – and it's his default mood when things go wrong.

The band regrouped in 2009 after a two-year hiatus, at which point their axeman told them he'd finished with them. "I've considered pulling the plug a million times – that's nothing new for me," Flea tells Guitar World. "Things get to be a bummer and I start going, 'This is kind of a drag.'

Metal Bible Translated Into English
(Gibson) The infamous Metal Bible is now available in English. First published in 2005 (in Swedish and Dutch), the book contains the New Testament, with some other material that features a metal twist, according to Blabbermouth.

A press release says that the Metal Bible "is a cool special Bible edition that besides [the New Testament] also features plenty of metalheads that share their life stories and talk about what God and the Bible means to them."

Among the metal musicians who contributed to the book's extra 128 pages: Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain, Megadeth's David Ellefson, Brian "Head" Welch (ex-Korn), Michael Sweet (Stryper) and others. The Metal Bible is also available in German. more on this story

Metallica Saved Diamond Head
(RockAAA) Diamond Head guitarist Brian Tatler says his band would have disappeared without trace but for the unwavering support and endorsements from metal legends Metallica.

Metallica have thrown their considerable metal weight behind the band and covered a pair of Diamond Head tracks while Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has repeatedly spoken of his love for the British five-piece.

Now Tatler, who appeared on stage with Metallica and the rest of the Big Four at Sonisphere Knebworth last month, admits their support helped give the band a second wind. more on this story

Hated Band Refused To Give Up or Give In
(Rock News Desk) Internet hate icons Design the Skyline insist the massive levels of animosity against them won't stop them making music.

The experimental metal outfit were greeted with unprecedented amounts of negativity on the release of their demo single Surrounded by Silence, which was criticised for its difficult-to-follow structure and the members' deliberate "scene" look.

The video has nearly a 90% negative rating after over 600,000 views. Their Wikipedia page is frequently vandalised and almost every post they make on social media sites is greeted with derisive comments. Printable gems include "It's hard to listen and stop myself from laughing," "Call them De-Sign the Skyline" and "It's so bad I think it gave me cancer." They've become known in some circles as "the worst band in the world."

But vocalist Dani Doom says his band – who sacked their bassist recently allegedly because he was too young – refuse to be put off. more on this story

(Gibson) The 80th birthday of Abbey Road Studios in London is going to be commemorated in a two-day concert. AC/DC Stole Brian Johnson's Stinking Cap
(Rock News Desk) Simon Wright says AC/DC singer Brian Johnson has a tendency not to wash his cap on tour – and it can lead to situations where the band's dressing room stinks of stale headgear.

Wright spend recorded three albums with the Aussie giants in the 1980s and fondly remembers life on the road with them as well. "Brian is one of the funniest people I've ever met. He can tell you 20 jokes in five minutes and it was great to be in a band with him," He tells BlastZoneOnline. "Unfortunately he wears a cap, or bonnet as they say in Scotland, and on one particular tour he took to not washing it for a while.

"We all began to notice this strange smell in the dressing room and narrowed it down to Brian's cap. It wasn't easy because he always wore it – but we managed to get it and have it sent out to be cleaned," Wright said. "In the meantime he'd managed to get hold of a new one, unaware of what we'd done. When the clean cap came back it got stuck in the dressing room case. A couple of days later he found it and said, 'Whose cap is this?' The rest of the tale here

Strokes Fans Teased With $5 Concert Announcement
(rock nyc) On Monday afternoon, a big and surprising (to say the least) announcement was made by concert promoter, FYF fest organizer, Sean Carnage: The Strokes were scheduled to play at Pehrspace next Monday for the modest sum of $5.

Pehrspace? The place, that is so hard to find, at the back of a parking lot, where all these underground bands play? Wow, unbelievable, this place looks like an apartment unit and cannot contain more than 40 people! Did you say intimate? You have intimate! But according to seancarnage.com the Strokes (not a cover band) were announced for Sean Carnage / Kyle Mabson Monday Night Six Year Anniversary Party, pt. 4 on August 22nd. There was even a link directing to a YouTube video of 'Last Nite',… it sounded like the real thing?

A little bit later, Sean Carnage posted that the Strokes' appearance had to be canceled, declaring 'The show must go on, but the headliner is cancelled. Your safety at my shows is my highest concern.' Read the statement here

The Stooges: Head On Updated for New Edition
(Gibson) The Stooges: Head On by Brett Callwood has been revised and updated to include Ron Asheton's death in 2009, his musical legacy, the band's fate without Ron, and the Stooges' long-overdue induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

"Scott Asheton didn't want to talk at all for the first edition... He rarely does interviews," said Callwood. "However, after his brother passed away and I was writing for this American edition, he talked to me and really opened up. It was a very moving, humbling experience."

Callwood interviewed all Stooges members, including Iggy Pop, Ron and Scott Asheton, James Williamson, Mike Watt, Steve Mackay, and Scott Thurston, and lets the band tell their own story. Callwood details the band's genesis as teenage friends in Ann Arbor, Michigan, their time living together in their legendary party houses in the 1960s, and the recording of the three original Stooges albums. He examines the addition of Williamson to the band on Raw Power and how it changed the band's sound and dynamic, along with the band's fateful meeting with David Bowie on their first British tour. more on this story

Jon Lord's Sarabande Revisited
(Kayos) Eagle Rock have set a August 23 release date for the rerelease of longtime Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord's 1976 orchestral Sarabande album.

A delectable slice of exotica, Sarabande is the culmination of Lord's fascination with symphonic rock over the previous eight years. As his third solo album, Lord, with the help of the Hungarian Philharmonic as directed by Eberhard Schoener, crafts an intricate and complex all-instrumental web of musical adventure.

The eight tracks "Fantasia," "Sarabande," "Aria," "Gigue," "Bouree," "Pavane," "Caprice" and "Finale"—clock in at 50 minutes with "Gigue" and "Bouree" each over 11 minutes long. "Bouree," a Lord original, is not to be confused with Bach's similarly titled piece. "I wrote that while living in America," Lord told a Romanian journalist in Bucharest 2009. "It was inspired by Hungarian composer Bela Bartok's `Romanian Dances.'" (The original bouree was a dance popular in Spain in the 17th Century.) (Mike found this online) "Gigue" is the most "rock" of the cuts, featuring a sizzling electric guitar solo over a rampaging rhythm track. "Pavane" contains a beautiful Spanish-styled acoustic guitar intro before Lord comes in with a bluesy yet softly meditative piano. "Finale" ends things in slam-band style, the orchestra firing on all cylinders.

Lita Ford Aging With Grace
(Rock News Desk) Lita Ford says she still feels like a 20-year-old "sexy rocker chick" at the age of 51 – and she has no interest in hiding the lines on her face.

The guitarist believes life on the road is all she needs to remain fit and healthy, and recommends loud music as a cure for feeling down. But Ford does still put time and effort into how she looks. She tells Style Goes Strong: "We all do so much for beauty. On stage every crease and crack in your face shows.

"I'm not one for plastic surgery – I don't even like makeovers. Every single line on my face has a story, and that's why I don't want to get rid of them. They're there and I'm proud of them." more on this story
