(Rock News Desk) Members of the Kings of Leon stopped just short of slamming frontman Caleb Followill after he wandered off stage drunk in Texas, forcing the band to call off their concert. The singer appeared to be tired and emotional as they performed at the Gexa Energy Pavillion in Dallas on Friday. After spending some time speaking incoherently, he told the crowd: "I'm going to go backstage and vomit, drink a beer and then come back out and play three more songs." He added: "For the record, I'm not drunk – I'm just f**king hot." But he didn't return, leaving brother and bassist Jared to announce: "We are so unbelievably sorry. It's beyond out control. It's really not our fault – it's Caleb. He can't play the rest of the show. "We love you guys so much, but I know you guys f**king hate us." more on this story

(Rock News Desk) Fan of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin who have spent years anticipating the uncovering of tapes the bands recorded together are waiting in vain – because they never existed, says Bill Ward. But the two giants of British heavy rock did jam in a studio, just once; and the Sabbath drummer says watching his Led Zep counterpart John Bonham play with two bass drums was unforgettable. The pair were close friends; and Ward admits he felt Bonham's death in 1980 as a result of heavy drinking was a wake-up call. He tells Back Page Magazine: "Zeppelin and Sabbath were in the studio at one time, and it only happened on one occasion. I don't remember what album we were working on, but we were in sessions and it all started when Bonzo came into the studio and sat down at my kit." more on this story

(RockAAA) Disturbed frontman, David Draiman has confirmed that the band have decided to 'go away for an indefinite period of time' but that they remain close friends and any break is not 'due to any animosity'Speaking to Billboard, Draiman blamed the state of the music industry and continuous touring for their decision to take a break, and added that time off would enable band members to pursue some projects which they had put on hold over the years. Confirming that the band would be on hiatus after their current South American tour he said: "This is really not due to any animosity — I want to make that very clear "In fact, we just had dinner together last night. Believe me, it's not like we can't work with each other anymore or we don't get along. This isn't a bad blood thing, and I don't ever want people to get that impression of it. . ." he said. "[We have just decided to] go away for… an indefinite period of time. It's just the right time to step away for awhile." more Draiman also addressed the issue on Twitter. "We haven't said that we're breaking up. We simply do not know yet" he wrote. "All I can say is we are going on an indefinite hiatus." more on this story

(Rock News Desk) Producer Bob Rock knows many Metallica fans blame him for moving them away from their classic sound by producing 1991′s Black Album – but he says it was nothing to do with him.Instead he insists the band had already made a decision to abandon the thrash musical ethic, and he just helped them go where they wanted to go by persuading them to follow drummer Lars Ulrich more than they'd done in the past. And he admits the experience was so fraught he told the band he'd never work with them again – and he believed the feeling was mutual. Marking the twentieth anniversary of Metallica's self-titled release, known as the Black Album by most fans, Rock tells MusicRadar: "They had broken through to one level but they still weren't on mainstream radio. When they came to me they were ready to make that leap to the big, big leagues. "A lot of people think I changed the band. I didn't: in their heads they were already changed when I met them." more on this story

The Stoke show sold out in less than two hours, with more than 1,500 lucky fans in attendance on the big night. With drummer Chad Smith returning to the Red Hot Chili Peppers – who have their own album and tour to do – Chickenfoot is in the process of auditioning some players to see who can fill Smith's shoes in his absence. "That's the biggest disappointment about the whole thing," singer Sammy Hagar told Rolling Stone recently, adding the band has auditioned several drummers and have an audition with Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Smashing Pumpkins). "He's going to spend a couple days with this and were just going to jam and if he fits. It's got to be the chemistry. Kenny can play that's for sure and we all like him. He's kind of like Chad – he's kind of crazy and he hits so f**king hard that he beats his drum set to the ground that after every show he needs a new drum set." Listen to the new song here

Blue October has released a music video for their new single, "The Chills," ahead of the August 16th release of their new album Any Man in America. The video was shot with a Phantom Flex High Speed camera, which films at 1080p with just over 2,500 frames per second and allowed for the extreme high quality capture of the super slow motion scenes. The camera was chosen because director Jeff Ray wanted the video to have "a new look." Three different Texas locations served as the backdrop for "The Chills" video. The band's performance was shot at the Triple Crown in San Marcos, a tiny little hole in the wall bar that happens to be the site of one of Blue October's very first performances. The Blue October fans that comprised the audience for this performance were invited to the video shoot via Facebook. Many of the exterior shots were actually shot on the property of Justin's house - while an actual party was going on inside complete with DJ, dancing and an unending flow of margaritas. The bonfire scenes and fireworks were shot on the beach in Galveston, which was necessitated because of the extreme drought and resulting burn ban throughout most of central Texas. more on this story

(Gibson) Kurt Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen, Washington, has rejected a proposal that a bridge immortalized on Nirvana's Nevermind album be renamed in the late singer's honor. The Aberdeen City Council voted 10 to one against lending Cobain's name to the Young Street Bridge, which is referenced in the ballad, "Something in the Way."The city's local parks board had recommended the rechristening, but members of the council expressed concern that the memorial would, in their view, glorify Cobain's substance abuse and his suicide. Via the Associated Press, Aberdeen's KXRO radio station reported that the audience at the council meeting reacted to the vote with applause. As a compromise, the council did approve a plan to name a small strip of property on the Wishkah River "Cobain Landing." (Gibson) Fountains of Wayne have a pretty wide variety of influences. In advance of the release of their new album – Sky Full of Holes, due out Tuesday – the band's Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger spoke to Spin magazine about their love for Tom Petty, Blue Oyster Cult, Crowded House and ABBA.Of the Swedish pop sensations' "Knowing Me, Knowing You, " Collingwood said: "Throwaway verse, pre-chorus buildup, [expletive] gigantic chorus and the best guitar riff in human history. Almost always I prefer sad songs to happy ones, and for some reason I keep going back to the I-III-IV of this song's riff section in my own songs, like 'Valley Winter Song,' 'Cemetery Guns' and 'Troubled Times.'" Collingwood also expressed his admiration for BÖC's "Don't Fear the Reaper." "This song's fusion of metal and jangle-pop just about perfectly aligned with my transition from KISS albums to The Beatles and The Byrds," the singer-guitarist said. "Same with the lyrical idea, I think. The reaper imagery sits well with young kids, right next to their monster toys and skull T-shirts, but the real story is kind of sappy and romantic. Also one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar, at least up until the middle part, which I'm pretty sure requires a math degree." more on this story

Today Kory Kochersperger from Three Legged Fox tells us about their new single, "Let You Down," which was released today. It comes from their brand new album "Always Anyway," which is set for release on August 16th. Here is the story: Sometime during Spring of 2010 which was the early demo period of this new album, Kyle and I sat in our home-studio not really sure about which direction to go. We might have had three or four songs pretty figured out by then, and we were ready to start on something new. And I remember we specifically said, 'Let's dumb it down musically speaking, let's not outsmart ourselves here.' And for that day, that's what we did. I remember the verse lyrics coming really easily, which I can't say, is always the case. It was really just about looking up at someone and being completely amazed at their entire being, their poise, and their grace. Something I think everybody can relate to: a certain person in your life to whom you have pure admiration. I had absolutely no chorus on that first day. Kyle called me the next afternoon and played me the chorus he had written over the phone. It was great, it fit perfectly. The other thing worth noting is how pleasant that first demo was. In two days we had built a song that felt strong and sounded great. And we spent the next ten months trying to destroy it. Not on purpose of course, but that's what was happening. We re-structured, and added parts, and took parts out, re-wrote guitar lines…I mean we literally tried to run this simple song into the ground. But luckily we were able to realize that. We put it away for a while, and I think we came back to its simplicity. Thankfully. I love the way it came out. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
