Bret Michaels To Release New Album and Miley Cyrus Duet
(Gibson) Bret Michaels has revealed that his new album will be available this summer, according to HollywoodLife.com. Titled Get Your Rock On, the record will be released on June 14, one week into the upcoming Mφtley Crόe/Poison tour.

Michaels said that this album will be "harder" and that the major influences on this release include Garth Brooks, John Mellencamp, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Aerosmith.

"This one is primarily straight-up rock songs, which I think people will like," the singer said. "I've written a lot of good stuff over the last few years that I think are just good rock songs. I feel really strong about it."

Bono Says U2 Fans Aren't Groovy Enough
(Gibson) U2's 2009 single, "Get on Your Boots," was either a welcome splash of dance club life or a horrible sidetrack by a classic band, depending on whom you talk to.

The funky booty-shaker was a polarizing track for U2 faithful, a controversy that was acknowledged by Bono in Rolling Stone, saying flatly that there is a segment of the group's fans who "aren't groovy enough."

"Look, sometimes our audience isn't as groovy as we'd like," the singer said. "'Get on Your Boots,' as it was released, is a sort of crossover, half-club, half-indie-rock record. People are not sure about the club side of U2. They want 'Vertigo,' and when we did this the last time – with 'Discotheque,' from Pop – they didn't like it either." Adam Clayton has a different take

Foo Fighters To Score Their First No 1
(Gibson) Hot off a very public (and very rockin') CD release party on Late Night with David Letterman, Foo Fighters are rocketing toward the top of the charts.

Billboard is reporting that prognosticators anticipate over 200,000 copies of the group's new album, Wasting Light, will be sold by week's end, which would send the Foos to their first career #1 on the Billboard 200.

Dave Grohl and company have previously placed five albums in the Top Ten, with In Your Honor reaching #2 in 2005 and 2002's One by One and 2007's Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace both hitting #3. more on this story

Ozzy Osbourne Special Releases
(Gibson) Record Store Day Ambassador Ozzy Osbourne has been talking about his love for the old vinyl format for records. He told USA Today that he thinks vinyl sounds better: "If you don't listen to vinyl for a while and you hear it again, it sounds much better."

He's also pleased to see vinyl making something of a comeback. "It's exciting that young bands are making records on vinyl. The big corporations make everything so miniaturized. And when you buy the iPod or the iPad or the i-whatever, six months later it's obsolete and you have to buy a new gadget."

Osbourne's contribution to Record Store Day on April 16 will be a vinyl single of "Flying High Again" and vinyl albums Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman. more on this story

Radiohead Deny King of Limbs Sequel Reports
(Gibson) Although there have been plenty of rumors of a quick follow-up to Radiohead's recently released King of Limbs, the band say that there's no truth to the reports. The rumors were spurred on by Radiohead's Record Store Day releases – "Supercollider" and "The Butcher" – due on Saturday, April 16.

"'The Butcher' is from The King of Limbs sessions," guitarist Ed O'Brien told NME.com. "'Supercollider' was recorded during that period and finished off after the album came out."

He said that the single releases aren't part of a bigger piece. "There are songs that we have started, that we never finished, but there's not like seven or eight finished songs waiting in the wings to be released now, or in the autumn," O'Brien said. more on this story

Singled Out: Rival Sons' Torture
Rival Sons are creating quite the buzz with their classic rock infused sound and sharing the stage with likes of AC/DC, Alice Cooper and Kid Rock. Today their frontman Jay Buchanan tells us about the song "Torture" from their self-titled EP. Here is the story:

I was living in a studio flat in Long Beach at the time. Broke. A buddy of mine from Texas lived next door.

I had written the guitar for the verse, chorus and bridge drenched in reverb and a slow, saturated tremelo and I really felt like I had something. The song sat like that for a few weeks. The riff was strong but the lyric story had yet to hit me and I was getting pretty frustrated about it.

So, after working the guitar line for an hour or so one afternoon I hear my neighbor call to me from outside. I walk out and there is a huge snake on the grass in front of my door. My buddy is freaking out a bit, I guess he thought it was a rattler or something. It looked to me like a gopher snake. Since he's freaking out, I naturally start feeling like a macho man so I reach down and grab the snake. The snake in turn bites my hand and wraps tightly around my arm as I'm standing there trying to be Fonzie or something. I walk three houses down and drop the snake in this lady's back yard who likes to leave bitchy notes on people's windshields.

I had a beer, and finished writing the song that night.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the music video from the track right here!

Remembering Joey Ramone
On this day in 2001, Punk pioneer Joey Ramone, singer of The Ramones, died at age 49 after losing a long battle with lymphatic cancer. On November 30, 2003, a block of East 2nd Street in New York City was officially renamed Joey Ramone Place. Gibson takes a look back: Joey Ramone never sang on a Top 10 hit and his band never scored a platinum album. But that gangly guy in the leather jacket became a full-blooded rock and roll icon, even before his death on this day in 2001. There is no name more synonymous with American punk rock than Joey Ramone.

Of course, he wasn't actually named Joey or Ramone. Jeffry Ross Hyman was born on May 19, 1951 to a married couple in New York City's Queens borough. Family life wasn't easy for young Jeffry, whose parents divorced when he was a kid. He was awkward socially and an outcast at school, often retreating into the safety of pop music. His musical interests were encouraged by his mother, Charlotte, and Jeffry became a big fan of The Who, The Beatles, David Bowie, The Stooges and Phil Spector-produced tunes.

When he was about 20, Jeffry became the lead singer of a glam rock band named Sniper. A couple of years later, in 1974, a pair of fellow Queens musicians – John Cummings and Douglas Colvin – invited him to join a band they were forming. Soon Douglas took the moniker Dee Dee Ramone – in tribute to Paul McCartney's use of the name Paul Ramon in the early days of The Beatles. Dee Dee convinced the other two guys to follow suit, as well as name the band The Ramones. John became Johnny Ramone and Jeffry became Joey Ramone. more on this story

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne Pay The Taxman
(hennemusic) Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne paid off their $1.7 million US tax debts, a week after learning about their financial troubles from the news media. Reuters reports Sharon said on Thursday the federal tax bill had been paid, and she was now on a mission to find out why the Internal Revenue Service filed a lien on one of the British couple's Los Angeles-area residences.

"At 4 PM on Friday afternoon I received a phone call from my publicist, who had a reporter on the other line informing her that the IRS had just put a lien on one of our properties," Osbourne said in a statement released to gossip writer Perez Hilton. She linked to it from her Twitter feed.

"I then contacted my accountant who said they knew nothing about any lien. The lien has been paid. I do intend to find out how this lien happened without the knowledge of myself or my accountants. I hope none of this reflects negatively on mine and Ozzy's moral character." more on this story

Unreleased Jerry Garcia Footage To Hit Theaters
(Gibson) The Grateful Dead Movie – first released in 1977 – is scheduled for a one-night re-release in 540 theaters on Wednesday, April 20, and will feature never-before-released footage of late frontman Jerry Garcia talking about learning to play guitar.

"I wanted to teach myself [to play guitar]," says Garcia in the new interview, below. "I wasn't really into [singing and writing lyrics. I got into that when we started performing. Playing the guitar was my main trip … Even so I wasted a lot of time in terms of learning. I still am not learning as well as I could be under different circumstances. But it's the only way I can interface my personality with the problem of learning. It's worth it for those moments where it's on and your technique isn't standing in the way."

The film captures The Grateful Dead's five-night stand at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco during the fall of 1974. Want a taste?

Jam with Black Sabbath
Sabbath Double Sabbath has been unleashed by Lick Library with their release of Jam with Black Sabbath.

This double DVD and CD set features the nimble fingers of Danny Gill taking you through all the fine points of playing the guitar with that deep, heavy sound synonymous with Tony Iommi.

One of the first and most influential heavy metal bands, Black Sabbath helped define the genre with albums like the quadruple platinum Paranoid. MTV ranked them as the 'Greatest Metal Band' of all time and Tony Iommi is widely recognised as one of the most important and influential guitarists in the heavy metal world. Along with legend Jimmy Page he is credited with pioneering the mammoth riffs of heavy metal. His revolutionary signature sound was born of necessity, when an accident caused him to lose the tips of his fingers, thus bringing about the need to detune his guitars, use lighter strings and thimbles in order to reduce the stress on his fingers. more on this story

Bonded By Blood Lineup Change
Bonded By Blood have announced their new band lineup for their forthcoming North American tour supporting Sepultura.

Brandon Gulling (Malus Rex, Avenger Of Blood) and Ben Bennet (Smog, Warbringer) will be filling in on the tour for amicably departing members Alex Lee (guitar) and Jerry Garcia (bass) respectively.

Remaining Bonded By Blood members Carlos Regalado, Juan Juarez and Mauro Gonzalez have released the following statement: "Bonded By Blood has gone through so many changes in the last couple of years while playing amazing festivals, touring the entire United States, Europe and Canada dozens of times, and enjoying the time with new and old friends and fans all over the world who mean the most to us. We first lost our original bass player, Ruben Dominguez back in 2009, then singer Jose Barrales left the band in 2010, but each was replaced with new members and the group marched on. Now, we regret to announce that Alex Lee (guitar) and Jerry Garcia (bass) are also stepping away from BBB. We will miss them just as much as we miss Ruben and Jose, and this band will not be the same without them, but the three of us that are left in Bonded By Blood hope that everyone who enjoys this band can understand that changes are inevitable. As much as we want to keep an 'original line-up', things happen that you just can't control. more on this story

His son, actor Tim Robbins, said in a statement, "His passing has created great sadness for all of us and our mother, but we take comfort in knowing that the angels will soon be soothed by the songs coming from his beautiful baritone voice."

The Highwaymen (not to be confused with the later country supergroup) were formed on the campus of Weslyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Robbins joined the group in 1962, after they had topped the charts the previous year with the single, "Michael." Robbins recorded five albums with the band before they broke up in 1964. more on this story
