AC/DC and Other Rock Classics Banned At Funerals
If for some reason you wanted to be sent off into the great beyond with AC/DC's classic "Highway to Hell" or Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust," you are out of luck if you are going six feet under Down Under.

Gibson reports that The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne has banned the use of pop music at funerals, according to The New York Times. Archbishop Denis Hart has said the act of playing pop songs is not considered "a celebration of the life" of the deceased. The new guidelines state: "Secular items are never to be sung or played at a Catholic funeral, such as romantic ballads, pop or rock music, political songs, football club songs."

The Melbourne Hearld Sun reported that football songs are popular at many funerals, in addition to pop hits. Although Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and Bette Midler's "The Wind Beneath My Wings" are often requested, the newspaper reported that quirkier choices like AC/DC's "Highway to Hell," Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" and Monty Python's "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" also had been popular before the ban. - more on this story

Remy Zero Free Download and Reunion Memorial Shows
Remy Zero have released their new single "Til The End" as a free download ahead of their short run of reunion shows.

he band is set to reunite for four select memorial dates in October, playing Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles, in honor of the band's drummer Gregory Slay, who passed away on New Year's Day of complications from Cystic Fibrosis. On May 22, 2010 Remy Zero played their first show together in eight years as a tribute to Gregory in New Orleans, the town where he was born. After a moving and cathartic experience and an outpouring from fans, the band decided to reunite for several more one-off shows to further share the spirit of Gregory Slay and his love of performing. To coincide with the upcoming dates, the band has also disclosed that they will be offering at least one new or unreleased song with further details to be announced. Proceeds from the shows and recordings will go to benefit the Honeymoon Trust set up for Gregory's wife, Tiana Krahn-Slay and their daughter, Honeymoon Slay.

The four West Coast shows will mirror the spirit of the New Orleans memorial bringing together fellow musicians and friends to play alongside Remy Zero in each city. Jeffrey Cain notes, "The act of performing was very important to Gregory. It is the way we will always communicate with each other. Anytime we play those songs, he's in the room." In order to recapture the feeling of joy and healing that came out of the first memorial and celebrate the life and music of Gregory Slay, the band chose Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles for the expanded memorial dates because of the family, friends and fans Gregory had in those cities. These were also the last cities that Gregory toured when he played drums with O+S in 2009. In addition to the music, the upcoming dates will also feature an edited version of a film by Nina Parikh, shown at the original memorial. Nina, a lifelong friend of Remy Zero, had been documenting the band on film throughout their career.

Helloween Announce New Album, Plan World Tour
Helloween will release their 13th studio album, 7 Sinners, on November 9, 2010 in North America via The End Records with a world tour to follow.

The label sent over this background on the new album: If there is a golden thread throughout the more than 25 years of Helloween's history, 13 studio albums, countless headliner tours around the globe and more than 5 million records sold, then it is their special kind of attitude: don't take yourself too seriously and simply live statements like: "just have fun with the s*** you're doing."

Maybe it is exactly this easiness that allows Helloween to be one of the most constant bands of the genre while simultaneously being the one band who dares to experiment more than their musical peers. While some copycats would rather stick with the same old patterns, Andi Deris, Michael Weikath, Sascha Gerstner, Markus Groίkopf and Dani Lφble aren't afraid of taking risks - and are rightfully rewarded with success. - more on this story

Jim Byrnes Going Everywhere West
(PR) Black Hen Music announces a November 16 release date for Everywhere West, the new CD from multi Juno Award-winning blues and roots musician Jim Byrnes.

Chuck Berry, Ike and Tina Turner, Ray Charles and Muddy Waters played nearby and were major influences. Denial Machine Streaming New EP
Denial Machine are streaming their brand new EP, 'The Gainsaying Of Korah', ahead of its release on 14th September 2010 exclusively on EspyRock.

The story of Denial Machine travels back some time to a band called Ditchwater who consisted of current Denial Machine members Mark Anderson (guitar), Jaycen Angone (drums) and Eamon Skube (vocals – bassist for Ditchwater.) Over the history of Ditchwater the band was plagued with problems in their line-up with members coming and going but over those years they released several albums and worked with national producers, sharing the stage with the likes of Soil, Otep, Brand New Sin, Powerman 5000 and more. With their lead singer leaving before a potential live TV appearance and their latest being arrested in 2007, the band called it quits.

In 2008 the band joined forces with guitarist Mark Cichra to create the new band Ashes From Within. The band wrote material and started to audition for a new vocalist but with no-one seeming right for the position, Eamon Skube, who started pre-production vocals, took over permanently when it became clear he had the ability to do the job. With a final decision made in February 2009, the band started their new journey under the name Denial Machine.
