U2's Bono could never become president of the United States, he is from Ireland and the Constitution wouldn't allow it but there is one former world leader who thinks that the U2 singer has makings to be president or prime minister. Former British prime minister Tony Blair writes about Bono's political savvy in his new memoirs, A Journey. Gibson has the passage: On page 555, he wrote that Bono "could have been a president or prime minister standing on his head. He had an absolutely natural gift for politicking, was great with people, very smart and an inspirational speaker... motivated by an abundant desire to keep on improving, never really content or relaxed. I knew he would work with George [W. Bush] well, and with none of the prissy disdain of most of his ilk."

Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver fame informed fans in his Seattle Weekly column that not only has his band Loaded gone with a different producer for their new album, but they are done with the album and are ready to find a label to release it. The band parted ways with Century Media, the label that released their last effort "Sick" in 2009. Here is part of Duff's update: "Famed producer Terry Date (Soundgarden, Pantera, Deftones, Prong, Screaming Trees, just to name a very few) came in to the Loaded fold somehow just before we were to start this record and offered his assistance in a producer role. Yeah, when Terry Date wants to do your record, you run and not walk straight to that man. Actually, who could blame Terry? We are all pretty smokin' hot dudes, and our collective wit and charm has yet to be matched anywhere west of the Mississippi. Truth be told, though, Mr. Date is probably still scrubbing himself in the shower a whole week now after we have finished, in an attempt to get our off-color humorist hue out of his skin. "For those of you who follow the band, you will also know that having Terry produce this new record is a departure from Martin Feveyear, the producer of the first two Loaded records. Martin is not only our producer, but one of my dearest friends, and I can probably speak for the other fellas in the band when I state that this was a very tough decision for us. Martin totally understood and told us to make a great record. I love you, pal.

BW&BK ran a story early this morning with the headline Professional Classical Singer Analyzes Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie James Dio, King Diamond, Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Halford. Of course we clicked over to check it out! It was an excerpt from an Invisible Oranges feature where they asked classically-trained, New York-based voice teacher Claudia Friedlander to give her opinion of five heavy metal singers. BW&BK singled out Dio and King Diamond, who both got high marks, but we decided to focus on Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson and Ozzy Osbourne. Here is an excerpt of her comments' about Dickinson: "I have nothing but admiration for this singer. Listen how he starts off with a soft growl, then moves seamlessly into a well-supported, sustained high full-voice sound that then evolves into an effortless long scream! His diction is easily intelligible, regardless of the range he's singing in or the effect he's going for." She went on to praise Ronnie James Dio, even compared him to Freddie Mercury but she had quite a different take on the man he replaced in Black Sabbath. Her reaction to Ozzy Osbourne is classic. She said in part, "It hurt my throat so much to listen to him that I was tempted to ask Cosmo how long his career lasted before he either washed out or needed surgery." Read her full comments and see how King Diamond and Rob Halford did

San Francisco Bay Guardian Online has a great feature with Megadeth's Dave Mustaine where they discuss his new autobiography "Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir." During the interview they cover a lot of ground where Dave explains why he felt compelled to cover his troubled childhood but they also discussed Dave's troubled past with his former Metallica bandmates and how they have finally been able to lay the past to rest. Here is that part of the interview: "I saw [Metallica] over in Europe, we had dinner and it was fine. I was sitting there at the table with Lars and James, and I thought it was so great that we were together again we're in different bands, but the fact that we as three young little guys, what we accomplished, how we changed the world. I mean honestly, you can't even listen to a television program anymore without hearing music that's [evolved from] what we created. To be able to sit there with our brethren and knowing that in this room stands the cream of the crop of American heavy metal talent, and it was such a great feeling." "My relationship with Lars and James has been publicized a lot, so I went up to James and I said, 'I don't want to try to repair our old relationship. That would be like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. I want to have a new relationship with you,' and I think that's what we have now, it's great, and I'm going to see the guy when I get into town."

Gibson reports: Helmed by producer extraordinaire Rick Rubin, the untitled release will feature an array of classic rock covers. During their summer tour, CSN has been giving audiences the first taste of some of their reworkings, including a version of The Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday." Nash and Stephen Stills have revealed other songs that will be part of the album: The Beatles' "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)," Bob Dylan's "Girl From the North Country," The Allman Brothers Band's "Midnight Rider," the Grateful Dead's "Uncle John's Band," Jackson Browne's "Lives in the Balance" and Tim Hardin's "Reason to Believe." Nash told Billboard.com that he's not sure when the album will be finished and released. "It's a lot slower than it's ever taken us to do an album, because we've been on the road since May, and we don't quit until October," Nash said. "We all want it to be right Rick, too so we're taking our time to make sure it is."

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Doug Henthorn from Healing Sixes tells us how Joe Bonamassa Came To Play On "Fine Time" from their brand new album "Blue Jay," which is being released next Tuesday. We now turn it over to Doug for the story:I'd just returned from Malibu where Joe Bonamassa was recording his CD "Slow Gin". He and Kevin Shirley were looking to get me singing on that since "Tea for One" had been fairly well received on his "You and Me" release. It was all very gracious of them both, but I ended up singing the song that became the title track of that CD- "Slow Gin". It didn't make much sense for Joe to have someone else singing the title track- he's a very good and capable singer. I have to say in all honesty that they chose wisely. I was in a very dark headspace at that time and my performance on "Slow Gin" probably reflected a bit of that. So I came home a little down trodden and started working on ideas for the next Healing Sixes album. "Fine Time" was the first idea that came together, and from the moment that idea fell into place and the lyric evolved into this age old blues theme of 'the girl done me wrong', I knew it would be a great platform for Joe to do his thing. I reached out to see if it was something he might be into and he fired right back with an 'absolutely'. The band and I tracked the tune in less than a week and sent the beds out to Joe in California where he laid down these burning solos that lit the whole track up- he did a fabulous job. The best thing about this song for us as a band was that it was done in such a furious and reckless way that when it was finished, it was like hearing it for the first time. Everything about it was off the cuff and without any thought of making it more commercial or palatable to the masses. It's a full five minutes of angst and emotion from everyone performing and it really helped us maintain that mindset for the rest of our CD "Bluejay". Cheers! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

Our friends over at Gibson are celebrating the long holiday weekend by releasing their "Top 10 Labor Day Songs about Working Your Butt Off". Here are a couple of their picks:6. The Beatles, "A Hard Day's Night": Written by John Lennon with an assist by Paul, the seed for "A Hard Day's Night" came from something Ringo told a disc jockey in 1964. In talking about the band having just worked all day and night, he said it had been "a hard day," only to look around and notice it was dark. So he added "
night!" Genius comes in many forms. Thanks, Ringo! 2. Rush, "Working Man": The song that really broke Rush in the U.S., "Working Man" resonated with blue collar stiffs everywhere, who readily identified with its timeless message: "I get up at seven, yeah/And I go to work at nine/I got no time for livin'/Yes, I'm workin' all the time."

Not only are The Breeders back on the road but they might also be releasing some new music. Gibson has the story: With all the talk in recent years about Pixies reunions, one could be forgiven for forgetting Kim Deal's other great band. But The Breeders, which were initially formed by Deal and Throwing Muses guitarist Tanya Donelly as a side project in 1988, became bona fide hit-makers after the Pixies broke up in 1993. In between Pixies tours, Deal is back on the road with sister Kelley and company. Although the retooled band released an album, Mountain Battles, last year, the bassist told Cleveland Scene there could be more new Breeders music in the works."I've got enough songs for an EP, and I'm thinking about doing something like Fate to Fatal again," Deal said. "If I had a third EP, maybe I could put it all out on a record. I don't want to wait. It takes me forever to write a record." Deal stressed the importance of quality control in the songwriting process. "I can't handle being part of a bad song. Writing a song is super easy. You can go to the library or bookstore and there's actually a formula for writing songs. But here's the hard part writing a song I'm going to want to sing in front of people five years from now. If other people write bad songs, they just don't play them, like [Guided by Voices frontman] Bob Pollard he's got as many bad songs as he's got good songs."

Our very own Morley Seaver has a great new interview with Dave Brock the founder of space rock pioneers Hawkwind. The interview covers a lot of ground including the meaning of their new album title and album cover. Here is that part of the interview:antiMusic: I've been told that most Hawkwind records are based on a theme even if they're not full-fledged concept records. Is there any particular theme to Blood of the Earth and if so, how does it relate to the title track? Dave: Well there is. I mean, Blood of the Earth being the lava that comes out of the earth of course. And also, you know being weathered by the wind and water and turning to soil, so it's re-generation in a way. Constant re-generation. Some people will listen too and think about what they're doing on this planet and of course, we've got our escape-ism, science fiction and so on. There's a double sort of little story there. Listen, in a way what we're doing is painting pictures with sound and people can make their own minds up. (laughs) Paint their own story. antiMusic: I know you said it's up for interpretation but if Blood of the Earth is represented by lava coming up from the earth, what is the story behind the cover with a ship on water? Dave: Oh the ship. That's part of our show. We've got a wonderful visual show. and we have 2 dancers that have been working with us. They're really good girls actually, and they're really, really good together. We play a song called "Tide of the Century", one of Tim's songs and the two girls are actually like giant lobsters. They've got these huge great big costumes. And in the song, the longboat comes up through the water and I mean it looks quite spectacular when you watch it on stage. So that's the story behind that picture. It's part of our stage show.

(Gibson) Josh Homme has revealed that he nearly ended Queens of the Stone Age after founding bassist Nick Oliveri left the band in 2004. Oliveri left the hard rock group after a falling out with his long-time friend Homme."I thought about [giving up] a lot," Homme told ZaneLowe.com. "I wanted to respect what was there, but you come to a spot where you say, 'Should some mistake really be the end of us all? Someone else's mistake. Is that fair?' In the split [with Oliveri] I found my reason to continue, to make it about the music. "[It] always made me nervous that it would get to the spot where the personalities would overcome the music because I don't need a better table at a restaurant, I just want people to respect our music."
