Motley Murder?

Tracey Tetso planned to attend a Motley Crue concert in Washington D.C. in March of 2005 but she never made it.

Opening arguments in her murder trial began on Friday with her husband, Dennis Tetso, standing accused of her murder.

wbaltv.com reports: On the day she disappeared, Tracey Tetso was supposed to attend a Motley Crue concert but never made it. Her body was never found. Eleven days later, her black Trans Am was found in a parking lot, police said. - Read the wbaltv report for more details

Serious Illness Sidelines Disturbed Tour

For fans wondering why the current North American tour dates have disappeared from Disturbed's website, it appears that the plug has been pulled on the dates because frontman David Draiman, has been diagnosed with a serious throat condition.

At press time there was not a statement posted on the band's official site but the dates, which had them on the road in the U.S. for most of this month, had been removed. Boston.com reported that tour promoter LiveNation said that the unspecified "condition" is not permanent, but Draiman must stop performing for at least four weeks in order for it to heal.

The band's European tour plans still seem to be in place with their official site showing that trek kicking off in Helsinki, Finland on November 15th. Boston.com reports that Draiman underwent surgery for a deviated septum in 2006.

Deep Purple Sabbath Maiden Supergroup Finish Recording

We told you last month that Tony Iommi and Ian Gillan were going to be recording together again and this time they will bring Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain and Deep Purple's Jon Lord along for the ride... and it's all for a good cause. That has taken place and Iommi issued the following update for fans late last week:

I" had a great time in the studio yesterday with Ian Gillan, Nicko McBrain and Jon Lord. We had a brilliant time together laying down the track 'ut of My Mind'and a lot of fun doing it, plenty of jokes and humor! As expected everyone played so well. What an exciting time!!"

According to Tony's site, in 1989 Tony Iommi and Ian Gillan were just a few names in a long list of talent involved in the recording of the Deep Purple track "Smoke on The Water." This song was re-recorded to raise money for those affected by the Leinakan earthquake that struck Armenia in 1988. - more on this story

Plant Again Comments on Possible Led Zeppelin Reunion

(Gibson) Robert Plant again flirted with the topic of a Led Zeppelin reunion. After telling The A.V. Club, "I think we're probably thinking about talking," earlier in the week, the leonine singer gave another tantalizing, yet non-committal morsel to the Daily Mail, while promoting his latest album, Band of Joy.

When asked about the potential of a Led Zeppelin reunion, he didn't exactly say "no":

"I can't speak about that, as I'm not in control of destiny. It's not for anybody to say. Anything is possible, but it'll take a lot to turn it into something worthwhile. It was tough tearing into those songs after 27 years, but it was quite something. The sense of the event [at the 2007 reunion at London's O2 Arena] was so big in comparison to any one of us individually." -

Judas Priest Headbanging Minivans

(hennemusic) Minivans rock? Rob Halford plays a "priest"? Rock fans can be forgiven for shaking their heads (while headbangin' them) in disbelief at a couple of new tv commercials featuring metal masters Judas Priest.

Honda has launched the campaign for their new Odyssey minivan, complete with a Marshall stack, flames and pyro, all displayed to a soundtrack featuring Priest's "The Hellion."

A new Virgin Mobile USA commercial starts with Rob Halford - as a priest - instructing his congregation: "Let us pray," followed by rows of church-goers (and others) going into full-on text mode using their Virgin Mobile devices. - read more and see both ads here

Dream Theater Want World Class Replacement for Mike Portnoy

(Gibson) In an interview with Metal Messiah Radio, Dream Theater singer James LaBrie addressed the prog metal band's plans following the departure of drummer Mike Portnoy. LaBrie told DJ D.C. Green that the band is approaching the issue of Portnoy's replacement with care and diligence.

"We're not rushing into it," he said. "Because it's a big move for us; it's unprecedented within the band. This is our first time coming up against finding a drummer for Dream Theater.

"We do have everything in place. We don't have a drummer yet, but we have auditions for drummers all set up, and it's all ready to go within two weeks. So in two weeks we will start auditioning drummers. We already have seven guys lined up that are gonna come into the studio and they are going to play through some songs and so on and so forth." - more on this story

Van Halen's Past and Future

Dave has been keeping a low profile since Van Halen's 2007/08 tour wrapped up. There was a rare DLR sighting last month at a Scottish Gathering And Games in Pleasanton, California.

Rumours continue about a possible new VH album and tour in 2011, fueled by various sources, including Roth, who told a fan at the Scottish gathering, "You'll be hearing from us in the next 7-8 months."

My Chemical Romance Primetime

The video for My Chemical Romance's new single ""Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)" will premiere in primetime on MTV at 11 p.m. EST on October 14th following a new episode of The Jersey Shore.

The clip will go live on MTV.com at 12.01am EDT on October 14th before it debuts on MTV, MTV2, MTVu, MTV Hits, AND MTV Tr3s at 11 p.m that night.

The track is the first single from My Chemical Romance's highly anticipated fourth studio album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, which will be released by Reprise Records on November 22nd, 2010. - more on this story

Bullet For My Valentine Member Leaves Tour

Jive sent over word on Friday that Bullet For My Valentine bassist Jason James will be taking time off from their current North American fall tour.

James will be on leave from October 8th through October 17th attending to a private family matter and will rejoin the band on October 18th in Calgary, AB.

No dates will be cancelled and Escape the Fate, Black Tide and Drive A will continue to open on all remaining dates. Calvin Roffey, a musician in his own right and BFMV guitar tech, will take over bass duties until James returns to the tour. -

The Flaming Lips have come up with a unique way to earn money from their fans. Gibson has the story:

The Flaming Lips are recruiting 1,000 flaming skeletons for their annual Ghouls Gone Wild Halloween parade on October 23 in Oklahoma City.

Mortiis Giving Away New Album

Mortiis returns with "Perfectly Defect," a completely free, full-length, downloadable album. "Putting 'Perfectly Defect' out as a free download was a decision we made after some consideration," said the band's namesake Mortiis. "The new model of the music business is important to keep in mind; there´s a new mentality out there in terms of how people acquire their music now. For better or worse, music seems to have become a medium a lot of people aren´t prepared to pay for in the old fashioned way. So, we paid to record it out of our own pockets 'cos we thought it would be a really cool gift to our fans that have been waiting around for ages for something new to come out."

"I think we really captured a cool vibe here," Mortiis enthused. "It's not easy marrying anger with melody, but I believe we did it. The songs on 'Perfectly Defect' were created across a period of time, and I believe it shows in terms of what inspired these songs. They're rather soundtrack-y in a dark and sometimes bombastic way."

With the concept of digital distribution came a new empowerment for Mortiis - one where the artist controls his own artistic destiny. "After our record deal finally expired, I had developed a profound aversion to the very idea of letting other people control my art, my lifework," he said. "So, again, the idea of the new technology really did grow on me. We dealt with some really evil stuff in the industry. Nothing shocking in terms of industry practice, but at a human level, it was a living nightmare. It reached a point where we fired everyone around us except for the handful of people we knew we could trust. It was a big move, but had to be done in order to survive. It was like rewinding the clock back to the start and beginning with a clean slate. We started working on a ton of new music right then. With the advent of modern technology, we realized we could do a lot of stuff without the often self-serving, meddling record labels. Bangles Vs Simon Cowell

(Gibson) Bangles sisters Debbi and Vicki Peterson are not happy with Simon Cowell's criticism of music hopefuls.

According to The Daily Mirror, Vicki said: "I think this putting people up to knock them down has gone too far. It is excessive meanness - Simon Cowell is to blame and I think he takes it too far." Sister Debbi said: "The TV companies have a responsibility to make sure people are not damaged by being laughed at by millions."

The Peterson sisters, who along with Susannah Hoffs had several '80s pop hits like "Eternal Flame" and "Manic Monday," will tour Australia with Pat Benatar later this month. - more on this story

We hear a lot of announcements about new social media sites and ignore most of them (as do most people) but there is a new one that caught our attention.

It's called The Rock & Roll Tribe and is designed for fans of rock. But what makes it a little different from Facebook, Myspace and others is that it's organized into local chapters so the members can connect face to face at concerts and shows, record store expeditions etc.

John Mellencamp's No Better Than This Tour will be getting a second leg in the new year to follow up the first leg which kicks off this month.

The tour, designed as a uniquely formatted "evening with," brings Mellencamp's music to theater-sized venues, a rare opportunity to experience Mellencamp in an intimate setting.

Metric Score Animated Film and Kick Off Muse Tour

Metric will provide the score for an animated short film and kick off their tour with Muse this week.

About the short: A while back, director Christopher Mills (Interpol, Modest Mouse, The Secret Machines) came to Metric with his ideas for using "Collect Call" from Metric's album Fantasies. Mill's meticulously animated piece tells the haunting tale of a young woman trapped in "a dark dream in an alternate reality," and was received with enthusiasm during its world premiere at the Bravo!FACT Shorts Under The Stars screening this past weekend in Toronto. Mills is known for his experimental style that he describes as, "Rumpled Country Art Doctor Antiques Lover Who Thinks Out Of The Box Yet Imagines Vast Worlds Inside It."

Killing Joke Announce North American Tour

Killing Joke will return to North America this winter for run of tour dates in support of their new album featuring the band's original lineup.

Charlie Watts Forgets Rolling Stones Golden Era But You Don't Have To

(hennemusic) The legendary concert film, "Ladies and Gentlemen… The Rolling Stones," sees its DVD release on Tuesday (October 12), following screenings in theatres around the world last month.

Filmed in Texas during the "Exile on Main Street" tour in 1972, "Ladies" was released in cinemas for limited engagements in 1974 and has remained largely unseen since. Billed as one of the finest Rolling Stones concerts ever captured on film, the show features performances of classic tracks from the late sixties and early seventies.

"I'd forgotten completely about it and I still don't remember much," Stones drummer Charlie Watts tells Billboard. "Anyway, it's a good period for us, the Mick Taylor period. A golden era, really, for the Rolling Stones. He's wonderful live, and he had some good songs to play with." - more on this story

An Introduction To Syd Barrett

(PR) Capitol/EMI will release An Introduction To Syd Barrett, on November 9th. It is a brand new collection that will bring together for the first time the tracks of Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett on one compilation.

David Gilmour, who originally worked on Syd Barrett's two solo albums, as co-producer of The Madcap Laughs and as producer of Barrett, is the executive producer for the album. Damon Iddins and Andy Jackson at Astoria Studios have remixed five tracks including 'Octopus,' 'She Took A Long Cool Look,' 'Dominoes,' and 'Here I Go,' with David Gilmour adding bass guitar to the last track. Pink Floyd's 'Matilda Mother' also receives a fresh 2010 Mix.

Brand new artwork, including a 20-page booklet with brand-new graphics and all lyrics, has been provided by long time Pink Floyd associate Storm Thorgerson and his estimable studio. - more on this story

Singled Out: Bang Tower (Percy Jones, Neil Citron and The Electric Prunes' Walter Garces)

Today Bang Tower guitarist Neil Citron tells us about "Hair of The Dog" from their brand new album "Casting Shadows". Here is the story:

We were in the studio for the first time together at Entourage studios in North Hollywood. I asked Percy Jones if he had a revolving lick, because I had an idea for some chords to move over a bass lick. Percy started playing the beginning lick and I got Walter to jump in with his groove and I started playing these wah wah chords over it all.

After a few minutes of settling in, we stopped to figure out what would be next. Percy came up with this half step piece and so we played the two parts back to back. So far so good I thought. I came up with the next part and Walter began a samba drum beat, which sounded great and different from the other parts. We started recording the parts with the full intension of hoping for the best. We jammed the 3 parts we had and the rest just happened. So we're finally listening back to what felt great and Percy says " MY bass is distorted". I look at all the meters, and no RED! We decided to have Percy replay the bass in the control room. We got his sound up again and we started recording again and again we stopped only to hear Percy's bass sound distorting. We tried new batteries in his bass (active pick ups) with the same results. At a loss, I set up an appointment for Percy to go to the custom shop at Ibanez to get it looked at. Early the next morning, off went Walter and Percy to Ibanez to sort it all out, while I went into the studio to get some editing done.

What they found wrong with the bass was Dog Hair. Percy has a dog that sheds and some hair got under his bridge and was causing distortion. After we all laughed about it for some time, I said, we have to call the song Hair of the Dog! and there you go. In my humble opinion, it's one of the best songs on the CD. It has the most changes of mood within a song and has many interesting parts lying quietly in the mix. I hope listeners enjoy it as much as I do.

The Empire Shall Fall's new video "Lords Of War," will premiere tonight at 3:00AM ET/PT on Headbangers Ball.

How Fran Healy Snagged McCartney

(Gibson) How does one go about snagging the most famous bass player on the planet? Fran Healy, frontman for the U.K. band Travis, cracked that code when he landed Paul McCartney for his new solo album, Wreckorder.

"I'd written this song, 'As It Comes,' one of my favorites on the record, and it didn't have a bassline on it," Healy told Spinner. "And I thought, who would be the best bass player? Who could I get that would make Dougie [Payne, Travis bassist] go, 'Woah! That's okay. You got him, he's good.' And I thought, 'McCartney!'"

He continued, "No one ever taps McCartney for his bass, and he is possibly the greatest living bass player. I wrote to him and three weeks later, I got an email back, and it was like, 'Hey Fran, I love the song.' And I was like, 'Arggghhh! Oh, my God! He loves my song!' Paul's kind of busy, so I sent the whole session to his studio in Sussex with instructions, 'Please make this the best bassline you've ever played ever. Ha ha, I'm kidding.' He did three takes and sent them back, and I put the best one in the song – and it's brilliant!" - more on this story

From Good Homes will extend their reunion with a weekend of shows at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ on December 17th & 18th .

Lindsay Lohan Perfect for Iggy Pop Role

(Gibson) Talking to Australia's Triple J Radio, rock and roll legend Iggy Pop let slip that he thinks Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan may have what it takes to play the former Stooge in a movie of his life.

"She looks like me, and she's the only one with enough attitude, too," Pop said. "They could tape her boobs up or something. She's been in jail at the right age and everything, so I thought she could do it."

Elijah Wood had signed on to play Iggy in a now-shelved movie. Jim Jarmusch is also working on a documentary movie on The Stooges. "Jim Jarmusch is in progress making a very artistic documentary about the group," said the singer. "But you know, I'm not dead yet. When I'm dead then people can do that to me." - more on this story
