(hennemusic) Last week, Guns N Roses guitarist D.J. Ashba was the first in the group's inner circle to publicly mention anything about the status of a new project by the band. At the release party of the new video game, "Call Of Duty: Black Ops," in Santa Monica on November 4, Asha commented on the band's plans, saying, "We're talking about that right now. We've been throwing around a bunch of ideas and it should be good, man. We've got a lot of good stuff on the plate coming out. It won't take as long, I promise." On Wednesday, guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal tried to calm the rising tide of fan interest when answering questions on his Facebook page. "We've yet to get in a room and write as a band," notes Bumblefoot. "[I] know D.J. mentioned something about a new album, but don't want y'all expecting anything soon."

Iron Maiden have announced the final leg of their Final Frontier World Tour, but will announce more dates before this leg which will be the band's first full UK tour in almost half a decade. Here is what they had to say:This will be an extensive 10 city arena tour for the final run of dates on their Final Frontier World Tour 2010/11. For the first time in many years, the band will be playing shows across the full length and breadth of the UK, including places they've not visited for up to three decades! Steve Harris comments; "Everything in the Maiden camp has been so full on these last five years or so that we haven't travelled around the UK to play for our home fans for almost that long. These fans supported us by coming to Twickenham Stadium, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Download and more recently Sonisphere so we thought we should get off our backsides and do the travelling this time and get round the country to see them all. We very much look forward to playing all four home countries and a couple of places we haven't been for a very long time, Aberdeen and Belfast! And playing the O2 gets us as close to the East End of London where Maiden started off than we have been for many a year, probably since the Ruskin Arms! All in all l think this is going to be a very special series of shows and a wonderful way to end this whole world tour.

(Gibson) On this day in 2008, the music world lost one of its great drummers. Mitch Mitchell, best known for his work with The Jimi Hendrix Experience, passed away on a tour ironically celebrating his finest moments in music, on the 2008 Experience Hendrix Tour. But as heavy hitting as the music he played with Hendrix was, Mitchell actually approached the instrument from a most un-rock-and-roll direction.Influenced early on by the likes of Elvin Jones and Max Roach, the former child actor — born John Mitchell in Ealing, England on July 9th, 1947 — took a jazz fusion approach to the instrument. That is to say, he approached the drums like a lead instrument, dictating much more than just tempo. His back-and-forth with the other players often affected the melody and direction of the songs (give a quick listen to "Manic Depression" for case in point). Mitchell developed this style in a myriad of bands during the 1960s, with colorful names like Frankie Reid and the Casuals and Bill Knight and the Sceptres. Eventually, he started sitting in with higher profile acts, starting with a brief tenure in The Tornados (of "Telstar" fame). He then backed TV star Chris Sandford's group, the Coronets (later The Lively Set), during which time he auditioned for The Who (a gig he lost to the great Keith Moon).

Atheist are back with, "Jupiter," their first album in 17 years. To celebrate this week's album release we asked frontman Kelly Shaefer to pick some of his favorite tracks from the album and tell us a little about them. Here is Kelly with today's song: Fictitious Glide- This song from the start to the finish is one of my favorites, because it just has a vibe to it that none of the others have, and it gives off a sense of panic to my ears, and I love that. The guitar part came to me at practice while in front of the other guys, we all worked on this one together at the ass end of the writing for Jupiter. It was the last song we wrote, and the most spontaneous of the bunch. To some extent on my behalf anyway, it was musically inspired by the particular weed I was smoking with Baker on this fine day :) The middle breakdown section between bass, and guitars is sick!!! The lyrics to this one have a deep meaning for me, they deal with my perception of how certain people seem to roll through life without repercussions it seems, and my experience in becoming a new father, and then becoming a single father, were the inspiration for this lyrically. It contains some lines in it that resonate with me, and I am happy to get them out of me and into song. Its the first time I have allowed my personal life to be involved directly with an Atheist tune And the end of the song is just bombastic! The drums are just insanity, as is the case with every single song on Jupiter, Steve Flynn has delivered a performance that I could not have dreamed he would pull off, I am just glad he is my drummer!!! Fictitious Glide will be an ass kicker live for sure! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

(Gibson) Colin Meloy has said the new Decemberists album features music heavily inspired by R.E.M. That's only fitting, because R.E.M.'s Peter Buck played guitar and mandolin on The King is Dead, due out in January.Meloy told Spin magazine that the rocker, "Calamity Song," came about because of repeatedly listening to R.E.M.'s second album, Reckoning. "I was listening so much to the reissue [of Reckoning] when it came out last year," he said. "And it opened up for me. I was like 'I want to write a Reckoning song'. The words may not bear that much resemblance [to Michael Stipe's writing] but I think the melody is very Stipe-ish." Spin wrote that another tune, "Down by the Water" recalls Neil Young, both in title (one of Young's classics is "Down by the River") and the folk-rock, harmonica-added sound. Meloy said he hadn't picked up a harmonica in a long time, then name-checked an obscure roots rock act.

The Gates Of Slumber will enter England's Orgone Studios with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Angel Witch) later this month to lay down tracks for its forthcoming new album that will see a spring 2011 release via Rise Above Records. The Gates Of Slumber recently announced the addition of new drummer, "Cool Clyde" Paradis into its ranks. A New Orleans native and Hurricane Katrina survivor, Paradis joins The Gates Of Slumber hot off stints in Sourvein, Substance Abuse and the New Orleans blues act T-bone and The Rhythm Makers. "The new music is taking on a more troglodyte doom metal feel," exclaimed The Gates Of Slumber front man / guitarist Karl Simon. "With Clyde now in the band, the feel of things was bound to change; he's not only a different drummer, but from a totally different school of thought with regards to the drums. It's no secret that Saint Vitus' shuddering doom crawl was the root that inspired this band and we'd both felt that over three albums we'd taken the raw epic feel as far as we could. Now, it's time to get back to basics, shed some of the bulk and get ugly again. No warriors this time, no acoustic guitars, no keyboards, no lofty Nietzschean ideals. Just black bile and a bit of the old "white magic; black magic."
