(Gibson) After two years of touring that involved teaming up with The Big Four and rocking airports, Metallica are planning to take a break from the road. After playing their final World Magnetic tour dates in New Zealand, the band is looking to begin work on a new album."There's a bunch of balls in the air for 2011, but I think the main one is we really want to get back to writing again," drummer Lars Ulrich said. "We haven't really written since, what, '06, '07, and we want to get back to kind of just being creative again. Right now we are going to just chill out and then probably start up again in, I'd say, March or April, and start probably putting the creative cap back on and start writing some songs." Although the band recently confirmed that they will perform at Rock in Rio in Brazil on September 25, 2011, Ulrich didn't say if more touring was on the table for next year. But, the drummer did say that the chances are good for another Big Four tour (featuring Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth) in the next couple of years. "The vibe on this thing is so big, we'd be stupid to ignore it," he said. "You know on your iPhone, you can move the weather maps up and down? Well, the Big Four is quickly moving up to the top in terms of potential occurrences for the next couple of years."

(Gibson) In its first two seasons, Elvis Costello's television program, Spectacle: Elvis Costello with
, has been a hit with critics and fans alike. The interaction both verbal and musical between the singer-songwriter and such musical heavyweights as Bruce Springsteen, Bono and The Edge, Lou Reed, The Police and Elton John, among others, has been a dream for lovers of music and for the Sundance Channel, which has aired the program since December 2008. But now, doubt has crept in about whether the show will continue. Speaking with Spinner, Costello confided that whether or not the show moves forward relies greatly on the guests he's able to book. "At the moment, we're waiting to see whether we go forward with the same sort of degree of confidence; I don't want to do something that's inferior. And it is difficult. If you look at the list of the people that we did [in the first two seasons], and then you think of some of the people that people might theorize that you would like to get, well, it's whether they would want to do it, you know? And I know that with some of the people that you'd love to speak to, there are reasons why they don't feel right about doing something like Spectacle, or the timing isn't right in their life and career. So I think that it's got to be in the right circumstances."

(Gibson) In a new interview with The Guardian, Paul McCartney admitted that, with Band on the Run, he was trying to compete with what he had done with The Beatles."Otherwise there was kind of no point, though it was virtually impossible to do," he said. "Immediately after the Beatles, though, I was just trying to form a group. OK, I thought: I can ring up a lot of famous people and get a supergroup together, or I can go with my instinct which is that groups don't happen like that. There has to be a certain amount of building up, shared experience, shared music. That's how it was when I started out with John neither of us really knew how to do much. And it's the kiss of death if someone says they're the next Beatles. I was in that position with Wings, taking on this impossible task in which my lovely wife wasn't even a musician. I had Mick Jagger saying [bad Mick Jagger impersonation], 'What's he doing getting his old lady in the band?'" McCartney also discussed an obvious similarity between John Lennon and his work, post-Beatles. "Everyone had every reason to slag [Linda] off. In fact, there was no reason for anyone to support her," he said. "But I knew what I was doing as did John, having Yoko on his records. He didn't think she was Aretha Franklin. He was in love and he wanted to make something new something of his own making. It was to do with intensity of feeling. And looking back on it, he was absolutely right. Everything they did, I think, was good. John had proved himself a master in conventional terms and in joining up with Yoko he was about to prove himself in unconventional terms. In a way, that was in both our thinking."

Atheist are back with, "Jupiter," their first album in 17 years. To celebrate this week's album release we asked frontman Kelly Shaefer to pick some of his favorite tracks from the album and tell us a little about them. Here is Kelly with today's song: Faux King Christ- This is a weird one that is for sure the opening riff is one I had in my collection of riffs to present to the band written in my little homestudio in Fla, and I really liked, but it would typically not sound like something we would use in an atheist song, it was a strange pattern i found on guitar that i just knew Steve would take to new heights, and he of course surpassed my expectations, it's a 6/8 shuffle pattern along with I think a 260 bpm Latin variation of a samba beat, very unusual in Latin music, actually unheard of, but In metal it's very unique. A lot of the guitar riffs I wrote for this song in Florida and presented them to the band and we refined it from there. We had the nickname 'Cuban Pete" for this one before it has lyrics, so all of our rehearsal tapes for this have the name Cuban Pete on it, cause it just has this very odd feel to it. The middle/lead section was written by Jonathan Thompson. The solos are a trade off between Jason Suecof, who mixed Jupiter, and Myself, this was the first solo on an atheist album in 20 years for me.. no big production, just a fun spontaneous trade off between me and Jason. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

(Gibson) We told you about this in yesterday's digest but today Gibson has a little more info on it: Slash's new video with Fergie will have to undergo censoring before it's released to the public at large. The video, for the track "Beautiful Dangerous," features the Black Eyed Peas singer portraying a crazed stalker who lures Slash to her apartment, and then ties him to a bed before performing some dirty deeds. The concept was Fergie's idea, but Slash says the raunchier aspects of the end result will need trimming. "It's very controversial," Slash says. "I thought it was OK but apparently there's a lot of suggestiveness and we're having a rethink."

On this day in 1997, American session guitarist Tommy Tedesco died of lung cancer aged 67. Described by Guitar Player magazine as the most recorded guitarist in history. Gibson takes a look back: "When that red light goes on, whether it's running a race or playing guitar, whatever it is, all the adrenaline goes through the body. Some guys are at their best then, some say they're at their worst. I'm at my best with the pressure." So said Tommy Tedesco, the most famous session guitarist in entertainment history, who passed on this day in 1997. Ryan from Stripmall Architecture has released a solo EP under the moniker "The Science Teacher." This new EP, called "What to do with the time you have left" is now available for free download. Years ago, when on tour with his band, Stripmall Architecture, Ryan Coseboom walked onto stage to greet a sold-out house at the Crocodile in Seattle. In his trademark heavy-rimmed glasses, oxford shirt, and blazer, he looked like more like a rogue professor from an East Coast liberal arts college than a musician.
