Rare Track from Metallica's Cliff Burton Posted Online
Many consider "Orion" Cliff Burton of Metallica's masterpiece. Now thanks to The Metal Den you can hear exactly why that is and also what a tragic loss of a master musician the world suffered with Cliff's untimely death.

Here is a little of what TMD had to say about this track followed by a link to check it out: TMD reveals the Holy Grail of heavy metal bass. It's the isolated master bass track recording of the classic instrumental song "Orion" off Metallica's epic Master of Puppets album, the legendary band's third and final with bassist Cliff Burton – which was released twenty four years ago on March 3, 1986 via Elektra Records and reached #29 on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart.

This album marked the very first time Metallica would strike gold record status with over 500,000 copies sold. Believe it or not, this was achieved without any radio airplay or the release of one radio single or music video... - Read more and check out the track here

Roger Daltrey To Carry On With Or Without Pete Townshend
(Nightwatcher) The Who's Roger Daltrey insists he will continue performing even if the group split up because of Pete Townshend's tinnitus.

Roger Daltrey has vowed to continue performing even if The Who split up. The future of the group is in serious doubt because guitarist Pete Townshend's suffers from tinnitus - a severe ringing in the ears - but the frontman insists the demise of the group wouldn't end his career.

He said: "Would I carry on? Of course I would. I mean, I don't want to stop singing. I just can't keep going on trying to keep singing like I did 40 years ago. I'm realistic about where I am in my life now." - more on this story

The Cringe Returning With New Album in June
Having just returned from a successful string of shows at SXSW, The Cringe—singer/songwriter/guitarist John Cusimano, lead guitarist James Rotondi (ex-Air, Mr. Bungle), bassist Jonny Matias (ex-Crash Moderns) and drummer Shawn Pelton ("Saturday Night Live" Band, Bruce Springsteen)—are now looking into the future with the release of their third album, Play Thing, due out June 8 on Listen Records. The focus tracks "No Control," "Hiding Space" and "Where It Hurts" are currently being serviced to radio stations nationwide.

Recorded with longtime engineer Steve Hardy (Vertical Horizon, The Upwelling), and with input from legendary producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, XTC), Play Thing was anything but kid stuff in the studio. "You wouldn't know it from the title," laughs Cusimano, "but, as fun as it could be, making Play Thing was definitely not always a playful process. We didn't let anything go until we were all 100% behind it, and that required a lot of extra sweat and tears. But we truly believe that the end result makes it all completely worth the effort."

As guitarist James Rotondi continues: "Of all the talents and energies he brings into the studio, perhaps the one most unique to Steve Lillywhite is his ability to suggest seemingly small changes in structure or arrangement that, in fact, utterly transform a song, move it from being merely appealing to being highly distinctive, and which help etch a song's character into the listener's memory. There are hundreds of examples from his previous projects—the piano bit on U2's "New Year's Day" is a good example—but to benefit from that kind of instinct firsthand in a studio environment…well, that was both a thrill and an education, and our album is the better because of it."

Anthrax May Have John Bush Record Over Fired Vocalists Tracks
(Submitted News) MetalSucks' Axl Rosenberg spoke to John Bush from Armored Saint and Anthrax about getting back together with Armored Saint after all this time, the writing process for La Raza, whether or not the band has any plans to tour, and what exactly is going on with Anthrax. Here's an excerpt:

Everybody is kind of wondering what's going on with you and Anthrax, because it seems like every time somebody asks Scott [Ian] or somebody else in the band gets asked, they kind of go "We still don't really know."

Well, we just did these shows in Australia that were really fun. They were for the Soundwave Festival, and they were great. I had committed to doing these shows to these four shows in June as well as more festivals in August. As of now we're trying to figure out a way to see if we can re-record some of the songs that the band had already recorded [for Worship Music]. We're just trying to iron out some of the legalities on it. That's where we are at today.

So you think you would be re-recording some of Dan Nelson's vocals? That is what they want to do, and it's been a conflict for me, to be quite frank, simply because I kind of felt like I wasn't part of the creation of it. On all the other Anthrax records, I was part of it when it happened. I just wasn't involved in this, and it's something that they've already actually completed. I haven't disregarded it completely, and I know it's important to them. I realize they made this record and they're kind of sitting on it. They want to put some of it out, if not everything… at least a single, and we've talked about [releasing] an EP. We're still trying to figure out if we can do that, especially in conjunction with these shows in June. We've just got to kind of iron out some specifics. That's where we're at today, March 15, 2010. - more on this story

New Miggs Album Coming in May
The rock trio Miggs will be releasing its fifth album, "Wide Awake," on May 18, 2010, via Rock Ridge Music. The first album to feature drummer Ryan Scarbrough (who joined vocalist/guitarist Don Miggs and bassist Michael Lombardo in the group in 2008), "Wide Awake" was recorded in Tampa in December 2009 with multi-platinum producer/engineer Ken Lewis (Fall Out Boy, Kanye West). Easily Miggs' most accomplished, fresh-sounding and accessible collection of songs to date, "Wide Awake" is about clarity, focus; seeing things the way they are – not as we want them to be – and accepting, even embracing that state. It's a good thing even when it's a bad thing sometimes.

"I wanted to make an album that felt both immediate and nostalgic," says band namesake Don Miggs. "It's worn in and new at the same time. This is the first time I ever recorded an album with same guys I'd been playing with for the last two years and it shows. We didn't have to try to make it all fit. It just did."

To promote the album before its release in May, Miggs will appear on the national morning television show "The Today Show" on NBC on April 10th. Additionally, the group has been posting an ongoing weekly series of webisodes on its website (www.miggsmusic.com), which examines what happens behind the scenes with Miggs: a crew of cameras and feature film Hollywood producers followed Miggs on the road for six months – on tour, recording "Wide Awake," playing on "Good Morning America," eating at IHop, sleeping in Motel 6's, and at home in Tampa.

Pain Of Salvation Preview Forthcoming 2 Part Album
Pain Of Salvation have been staying busy with finishing up their 2-part upcoming album, Road Salt. Road Salt One will be released in the early summer, while Part II will come this fall.

Singer, Daniel Gildenlow has this to say: "The first part of 'Road Salt' is finished - mixed, mastered and delivered! It is a 12 track album of sweaty grovel, asphalt butterflies, untreaded paths and brave decisions. It will be presented to the world in one standard edition and one limited director's cut, of which we of course recommend the latter one. See, as usual, we refuse to add some stuff haphazardly to put together a limited product - we always see the larger version as the "real" one; the one that makes us the proudest. The release is scheduled for this summer..."

In anticipation of all this, the guys recorded the "Linoleum" EP as well as a video for the track which you can see here. The song will appear on Road Salt Part I, which also features a song which made the band a finalist for the Swedish Eurovision song contest! -

New Doves Single Coming Next Week
To celebrate twelve years since Doves formed and to chronicle a career to inspire envy- with two Mercury nominated albums and worldwide sales of over 2 million- the band will release their definitive collection, The Places Between: The Best of Doves on April 20, 2010. To coincide with this release a new single, "Andalucía" will be released on April 6, 2010.

"Andalucía" was recorded in the barn in Cheshire, England where last year's critically heralded Kingdom of Rust was recorded. Much of Doves body of work is an ode to the north of England but this song appears to tell of warmer pastures.

The song surges towards its rousing final chorus with orchestration colliding with a tender vocal from Jimi Goodwin. "Andalucía" stands alongside Doves finest work and will no doubt seamlessly sit amongst classics such as "Black And White Town", "Kingdom Of Rust" and "There Goes The Fear". - more on this story

Maps & Atlases Frontman Dave Davison Cast Spells Online
Daytrotter has posted a powerful session by Cast Spells, the nom-de-tune of Maps & Atlases frontman Dave Davison. The 3-song set, recorded at the Daytrotter studios is available for free download and streaming

Daytrotter founder Sean Moeller eloquently describes the Cast Spells session: "Davison tends to think about things in a manner of how they affect the balance of everything - of what it means to be in this life, in that life and how any actions might send ripples through the common cartilage, rocking everything just slightly or devastatingly off its base. He takes us into the woozy escapes of a mind that wanders here and there, but ultimately finds itself stuck in the stampede of such crushing proximity to so many others and a reliance on needing everything to fit together harmoniously. A song like "Potted Plant" is a great example of the forces in collision, of a man of nomadic nature still trying to fit into some kind of domesticity that will keep him on a sunny windowsill. Then again, there's also that streaming feeling that running away from it all and returning to the backwoods isn't out of the question.

"Davison sends us into a world that feels as if it was originally given to us in such a different state, but there's an innocent belief that it can be rearranged to be a likeness of its previous self once again with a little doing. It feels as if we've added all of the extra coats of paint, built it into a disgrace that could be much simpler, could be much prettier. We slide a hand figuratively into his as we listen to Cast Spells and launch ourselves out the door and down steep grassy hills at reckless speeds, knowing that it's likely we'll spill without time to get our hands out in front of us to brace the fall, but we'll spring back up, comment with a chuckle about the deep green stain on our knees and elbows and continue to follow him - recklessly." - Check it out here

Singled Out: Ruby James
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Ruby James tells us about "Between Darkness and Light" from her brand new album "Happy Now". We now turn it over to Ruby for the story:

A few years back I had re-enrolled in college to get a degree. This also meant that I was giving up on the music business for good, or so I thought. I love books and so I enrolled in this advanced literature class. Firstly the readings themselves were quite complicated and then the class discussions proved to be even more complex. I could not figure out how some of these people were deriving all of these meanings from what we were reading. We were supposed to write a report for the book and I thought to myself… I have nothing to say, how am I possibly going to get through this? The one cool thing that I remembered our professor saying was that we shouldn't judge ourselves too harshly on whatever level we were at with the readings and everyone would get something out of it no matter how simple or how advanced we were with dissecting the books.

I tried to sit and focus on what I was getting out of this book "In the Skin of a Lion" by Michael Ondaatje. For me there was so much poetry in the lines and such beautiful imagery that it ultimately stirred me to write the song "Between Darkness and Light" which, in my opinion, has come to have some of the best lines I've written up to this point. I combined the inspiration from the readings with the massive pain I was in over a lost soul mate love at the time. Those two experiences, one scholastic and the other deeply emotional and personal, brought up the feelings for this song and explained the position I was in at the time so very well. I handed it in with a home recording as my report, truly thinking the teacher would not pass it. He gave me a B+ and pulled me aside after class to tell me he thought I should keep pursuing my music because I was good at it! His words encouraged me to go back to what I was meant to be doing and also helped me to understand that most of my depression was fueled by the fact that I had given up doing what I loved.

Six months after that everything turned around completely for me. I somehow found myself in Austin, TX starting a new album with several musical icons Will and Charlie Sexton and Mike Thompson from the Eagles. In three days, we laid down 11 tracks for an album that would end up being titled "Happy Now" and is finally being released this March 30th! "Between Darkness and Light" was really the catalyst for the whole journey. I wish I could find that teacher to thank him. Sadly I don't remember his name. Had I not taken his class and gotten stumped on that book and that assignment, I may have never broken down to write a song again. Well, likely I may have, but it makes for a good story anyway.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
